Executive Director

Hillels of the Florida Suncoast

Role Overview

Impact the world through enriching the lives of Jewish students by joining Hillels of the Florida Suncoast, (HFS), as the Executive Director. You’ll wake up each day, (or at least most), and be genuinely excited about creating an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience, and create vibrant lives. Hillels of the Florida Suncoast is uniquely situated on the west coast of Florida and services four campuses under its umbrella, including University of South Florida, Eckerd College, University of Tampa and Florida Southern University. Each campus has its own identity and distinct program, creating an exciting dynamic – life will never be boring!

The Executive Director will build the strategy for engaging all Jewish students on each campus and support a pluralistic, dynamic community. Under your leadership, Hillels of the Florida Suncoast will develop as a Hillel of excellence in partnership with all its key stakeholders. You’ll chart a path for HFS and develop key resources to help students thrive. You’ll be excellent in this role if you are passionate about leading a team, setting the strategic vision for your Hillel, developing human and financial resources, supporting students, and strengthening the ties between Hillel and your community. You’ll meet stakeholders, community members and students. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5.

What You’ll Do

  • Build a strategic plan in year one and lead the drive for a long-term plan for HFS across our four campuses.
  • Understand each HFS unique campus culture and find opportunities for partnership and connection where these opportunities intersect with Hillel’s priorities.
  • Be a strong positive advocate for Israel on each campus and in the community.
  • Bridge and develop strategic relationships with different organizations and departments on campus, as well as, in the local community.
  • Connect HFS to the International Hillel movement and other national initiatives and programs.
  • Develop Hillel’s financial resources to be on par with the caliber of the institution, the size of the Jewish community and the needs of the strategic plan.
  • Inspire and organize pluralistic, diverse Jewish life on each campus. Create strategies to expand the base of the Jewish student community on each campus to include a multiplicity of Jewish backgrounds and interests.
  • Take on new projects and develop the financial resources to implement these projects.
  • Act as a leader representing HFS and convener of community every day, as well as, during times of celebration and challenge.
  • Develop and nurture staff, student interns and student leadership by effectively managing the team and providing growth opportunities.
  • Exhibit leadership around financial resource development and cultivate the stakeholders that will help you get there, including lay leaders and local community members and agencies.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in management roles in the Jewish or secular nonprofit domain, higher education, or mission-driven organizational world is a plus. Past Hillel experience is a plus as well.
  • Success with:
    • Developing a strategic plan for an organization and executing that plan
    • Financial resource development, including executing annual fundraising campaigns, cultivation, stewardship, and major gift solicitation through in-person, print, and online channels
    • Managing a team of professionals to accomplish their best work
    • Stakeholder relations
    • Fiscal budgeting and financial forecasting
    • Inspiring interest in pluralistic, diverse Jewish life
    • Building student engagement and leadership development programs and opportunities
    • Partnering with a non-profit board of directors, granting foundations and grant issuing organizations
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. We will consider a range of candidates’ experiences and credentials.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit. Things may not always go according to plan, but you are willing to take risks and learn from your wins as well as your losses.
  • Capacity to create space for a diversity of perspectives and allow all voices of students to be heard.
  • Creative problem-solving strategies.
  • An inspiring presence which will help others to deepen their interest in Jewish life.
  • Strong relationship building skills and comfort working with diverse populations different than your own.
  • An attitude of proactive communication and collaboration across offices and agencies.
  • Expertise in leading complex conversations about Judaism and Israel in a way that is approachable and meets students at various points in their personal Jewish journey.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $105,000 - $120,000.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity (GSRA), pension plan, life insurance, Long Term Disability (LTD), Flexible Spending Plan, Vacation/sick time, and parental leave
  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill building opportunities
  • Travel regionally and abroad, particularly to Israel
