The Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) is a hands-on role within the Maintenance Department at Hill Aircraft performing general to complex maintenance tasks on assigned aircraft. The AMT is an instrumental part of a team conducting a number of aircraft maintenance functions for both the FAR 145 repair station and the FAR 135 charter operations. The AMT contributes to aircraft safety by maintaining a high degree of workmanship and inspection standards, providing enthusiastic support to the team and for customers. The AMT will help to make an all around difference and be a part of the safe and proficient services performed in the maintenance operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform any and all mechanic tasks generally recognized as, but not limited to, working on or about aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and test aircraft systems and components used in their work and sign for the work performed.
  • Perform work satisfactorily to company standards.
  • Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled projects while accurately estimating the number of hours and materials for the job.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members - including other Technicians, project leads, maintenance scheduling and administrative, and department leadership - to ensure continuity on assignements and formulate an accurate written pass down at shift change such as verbal, written and/or electronic.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, flight crews, Parts Department, Charter Department, vendors, and company leadership.
  • Assist in instructing/mentoring less experienced technicians.
  • Perform inspection /checks on engine(s) and associated systems utilizing calibration and testing equipment to confirm proper operation or detect and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Report daily to supervision detailing status of work orders, parts requirements, labor requirements, and any other matters pertaining to the timely completion of work.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, functional components, and parts such as wings and fuselage, rigging, and hydraulic units.
  • Adjust, align, and calibrate aircraft systems, using hand tools, gauges, and test equipment as required through processes and procedures as established in the aircraft maintenance manual.
  • Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components, and accessories, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Verify test equipment for proper calibration, isolate uncalibrated equipment, and report discrepancies to Quality Control.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork thoroughly to return aircraft to service.
  • Ensure that all tooling, equipment, and shop facility is maintained, in good repair, and safe condition.
  • Coordinate with FBO Line or Customer Service to schedule movement of aircraft needed in maintenance and assist when needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on aircraft and associated appliances.
  • Ensure proper tagging and identification of all parts and components.
  • Maintain organized and clean work space.
  • Monitor work area for safety hazards staying informed and reporting about work-related health and safety issues.
  • Assist in completing other duties as defined by management.

General Qualifications | Knowledge & Experience:

  • Must hold a valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • Inspection Authorization is a plus.
  • Formal documented training in Airframes and Engines on Cessna Citation and Beechcraft King Air.
  • Minimum 3-5 years as A&P with experience in inspecting, maintaining, servicing and repairing turbine and piston engine aircraft.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and avionics systems troubleshooting preferred.
  • Thorough understanding and implementation of FAA regulations and guidelines.

  • Understanding the operation of various aircraft and engine systems.
  • Sheet metal repair and installation.
  • Electrical and avionics troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to read, write, interpret, and speak the English language.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Exceptional time management and reliability.
  • Ability to work well both independently and with a team to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot or evaluate operations and processes.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Reading and interpreting aircraft maintenance manuals and specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license without restrictions and have acceptable driving record that meets company insurability requirements.
  • Must be able to report daily to maintenance hangar facility located in Atlanta, GA.
  • This is an hourly, nonexempt position and may require working flexible hours including overtime, evenings and weekends, and on scheduled company holidays as needed to accommodate the requirements of the customers and department operations.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and FAA DOT drug screen. Hill Aircraft is a Zero Tolerance Drug Free Employer, including pre-employment and random drug screening.
  • Operation of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to handle moderate to heavy physical activity inside of hangar or outside around ramp operations.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as tow bars, tow heads, and tool and equipment handling.
  • Ability to travel for the position if needed (infrequent).

Environment & Work Conditions: The work environment or conditions described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position and may vary on a given day depending on needs.

  • General office conditions.
  • In hangar and other areas of facility around active maintenance operation and equipment.
  • General flight conditions if required on test flights or aircraft runs.
  • Perform physical labor activities with hands working on aircraft.
  • Outside on active ramp with aircraft and moving ground handling equipment.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and in high, precarious places.
  • Frequently exposed to the risk of electrical shock or vibration, to fumes or airborne particles, and to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Performing activities around a work environment with high noise level.
