Overview

Manufacturing Engineer

The Hexagon Autonomous Vehicle By-Wire Team unlocks control of autonomous vehicles. The team develops Hexagon proprietary by-wire system control modules and then integrates those modules along with actuators, harnessing, brackets, and other proprietary circuitry into vehicles to unlock control of various vehicle systems such as throttle, steering, braking, gear selection, lighting, and more. These systems enable vehicles to be controlled by autonomous software modules when those vehicles would otherwise be uncontrollable prior to integration of the by-wire system

As a Manufacturing Engineer, reporting to the Integration Manager, you will influence business success by applying your extensive engineering background and expertise in designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process within a high-tech industry. Your responsibilities include identifying areas for improvement, maintaining high levels of manufacturing and product quality, designing new products and processes, as well as ensuring cost-efficiency and conformance with regulatory standards across the Platform Engineering team.

This position is with Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division, a global technology leader, pioneering end-to-end solutions industry leaders rely on for assured positioning and autonomy on land, sea and air. Within the Autonomy & Positioning division your work will contribute to the operation of our brand(s) NovAtel, AutonomouStuff, VERIPOS and Antcom.

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based in Morton, IL. 

Responsibilities

As Manufacturing Engineer, you will:

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts, equipment installation, processing, machining, tool selection, and material handling
  • Support future production planning with labor, material, and production cost calculations.
  • Analyze information, generate alternatives, and commit to solutions that ensure the efficient use of resources
  • Implement process improvements by prioritizing and assigning tasks, resources, and accountabilities to ensure objectives are met within the required time and budget
  • Design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout
  • Ensure that the facility operates within all applicable legal, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Maintain capital assets in premium condition while creating a showplace environment throughout the facility
  • Assist in documentation of material and process of products and builds with the Mechanical Engineering team
  • Collaborate with Engineering regarding product design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques
  • Identify, lead, and develop talent in order to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness in meeting company goals. Leads, drives, and participates in CI activities—processes
  • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines
  • Works closely with Mechanical Engineering department to document and create SOPs and prints
  • Travel to customer locations to support remote projects may be required

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering plus experience in manufacturing environment
  • Increasing level of responsibilities in managing matters and resolving issues related to equipment and tooling design and modification, production equipment acquisition, installation and maintenance, project management and supervision
  • Knowledge and application of design, engineering and technology, computers and electronics, technology design, and problem solving
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and /or SolidWorks CAD software

Key Success Factors:

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma Tools, Lean Manufacturing, Automation, and Capital Project is a plus
