Henry Schein One is Hiring a Remote Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Henry Schein One is aiming to transform dentistry by ensuring dental practice success, improving patient experience and increasing access to care for years to come.

You will lead a new team within our Henry Schein One engineering group, which collectively runs the largest dental practice platform in the world. Our group is responsible for the services that are used by dental practices in the US, both directly to dental practices and to dental service organizations. The teams we’re creating with this role will be responsible for maintaining our existing software and also building new services using microservice architecture using event sourcing for storing all dental practice information in the cloud.

JOB SUMMARY: 

The right candidate will thrive in an environment of asynchronous communication. In this role also you will lead, providing guidance, support and advice to your team. Examples of previous work within this group include: improving large organization performance, championing efficient ways of building highly secure, highly resilient, highly scalable and performant software.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate an environment where team members are empowered and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and belonging
  • Meet with team members 1-on-1 on a regular basis
  • Ensure that individuals on the team learn, grow and advance in their respective careers
  • Create a shared understanding of decision making, direction, and progress for the team, the company, and the community.
  • Prior experience managing a distributed remote team
  • Demonstrate a proficiency at encouraging personal development and helping team members understand the importance of their role in fulfilling the mission of the organization
  • Ensure all personnel are committed to quality, have healthy work relationships, have a clear understanding of their career progression, and are given opportunities to learn and grow
  • Oversee staffing in regard to hiring, dismissals, performance management, and pay reviews in collaboration with senior management
  • Communicate status of personnel, products, and projects with clear, concise reports and metrics to all stakeholders
  • Provide project-level budget forecasts and manages in accordance with the established budget
  • Communicate product and department future direction to team members and other stakeholders in collaboration with senior management

GENERAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Prior experience managing distributed and remote teams
  • Prior experience leading cross functional teams building microservices and following best CI/CD practices that improve DORA metrics
  • People generally tell you you’re an organized person
  • Prior experience with building and operating services at global scale
  • Experience with building microservices using event sourced architecture

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically 10 or more years of increasing responsibility and complexity in terms of any applicable professional experience; 1 or more years of management experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent preferred. Typically holds 1 or more industry certifications.

The posted range for this position is $140,000 - $165,000 which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc. This position is eligible for a 15% bonus not reflected in the posted range.
