Behavioral Department
Position: Billing Specialist
Reports To: Vice President, Behavioral Services
Supervises: N/A
Pay Status: Non-Exempt
Organizational Level: Administrative
Distinguishing Characteristics of Work: The Electronic Medical Records Specialist will assist and support the billing and outcome management information for the Children’s Mental
Health Division (CMH) of the Behavioral Services Department and provide administrative/clerical support to the VP, Clinical Director, and CMH division of the Behavioral
Services Department.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Provide support and training for Electronic Medical Records (Lauris Online) to include assisting in project planning.
2. Assist in electronically/and or manually bill insurances, funding sources, private pay and rebilling as needed.
3. Assist in time tracking of all direct contact staff and calculate units billed weekly.
4. Mail and track Consumer Satisfaction Survey as well as conduct phone satisfaction surveys.
5. Track the Utilization of Services as it relates to treatment and funding guidelines.
6. Track, monitor and assist staff in the authorization process to ensure authorizations are current and have not run out of service units authorized.
7. Maintain Active Consumer list and check for accuracy in Lauris online.
8. Provide administrative/clerical support to the Behavioral Services VP, Clinical Director, and CMH division of the Behavioral Services Department.
9. Track BNET Alternative Services utilization running reports for as needed for Behavioral
Services VP and Behavioral Health Liaison.
Clerical:
1. Provide administrative/clerical support to the Behavioral Services Coordinator (BSC), the Clinical Coordinator, and the CMH division of the Behavioral Services Department.
2. Occasionally run errands using own vehicle.
3. Perform other miscellaneous tasks as needed.
4. Provide support for receptionist when needed.
HIPAA Privacy & Security Access:
Due to the nature of this position, regular access to client files—electronically via the database and hard copy files via file cabinet is necessary. All employees in this position must use his/her password at all times and ensure proper log in/log off of the database and file maintenance at all times. Passwords must not be shared and hard copy files must be returned to a locked file cabinet.
Essential Physical Activities:
1. The ability to bend, stoop and stretch when archiving or retrieving files.
2. The ability to sit for long periods of time.
3. The ability to drive a motor vehicle when engaging in miscellaneous errands.
Equipment Used:
Computer terminal & printer; fax/copy/scan machine.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience:
1. High School Graduate or equivalent GED certificate with a minimum of four (4) years office experience.
2. Must have experience with the Lauris Online Program.
3. Must be computer literate
Other:
Must have motor vehicle and clean driving record.
Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
