Job Description About the Role The Huntington’s busy and highly visible Office of Communications and Marketing is responsible for providing strategic leadership for external outreach and institutional positioning, with responsibilities that include media relations, brand management, social media, creative design, marketing, publications, the Huntington’s website, the institutional blog, audio, video, and photographic content, and other outreach platforms and initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Social Content and Strategy, the photographer works on assignment to provide high-quality images that capture the spirit and essence of Huntington events, exhibitions, collections, people, and beyond – both outdoors and indoors. Must have superb organizational skills and be an excellent photographer, deadline oriented with the ability to work independently, and be able to anticipate needs and to prioritize multiple tasks. May involve some evening and weekend work. S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach. Essential Functions Shoots and produces high-quality photography as needed, for social, the Huntington’s web site, print, and beyond. Works closely with Communications and Marketing staff members to determine needs for photography and deadlines Obtains permissions and waivers as required Communicates with clients to schedule time and place for photoshoots Manages photo sessions and may art direct as needed Maintains and manages photography equipment Edits photos Submits photos by or before deadlines Attends weekly planning meetings Handles other duties as assigned. Qualifications 2-3 years of experience producing high-quality photography in an institutional setting, preferably a museum or other nonprofit or cultural organization. Demonstrated knowledge of digital photography equipment and ability to recommend and source photographic supplies and equipment needed to carry out specialized photographic assignments Background in photojournalism, studio, and portrait experience preferred along with related lighting skills. Self-starter; demonstrated ability to work well alone and as part of a team. Active problem solver possessing strong conceptual thinking skills with the ability to make changes and corrections as they occur, and to offer appropriate solutions. Demonstrated ability to work on tight deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Outstanding organizational and planning abilities, including the ability to sort, categorize, and provide keywords for images, and expertise in maintaining extensive digital image library Detail oriented with a commitment to high quality. Computer skills required include proficiency in MS Office, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Lightroom Experience in the discreet handling of confidential information. Ability to manage competing priorities Ability to work well with all levels of staff. Ability to work well with a variety of personalities and work styles. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
