Network Operations Manager

Hybrid Role: 3-4 days across schools located in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island; 1-2 days remote

Hebrew Public is a fast-growing New York City-based network of diverse-by-design public charter schools that teach children of all backgrounds to become productive global citizens. Our schools are among the most racially and economically integrated in the nation. Our program model weaves together foreign language instruction, personalized learning, social and emotional learning, and academic rigor. Hebrew Public currently manages three elementary and two middle school programs in New York City and one elementary school program in Philadelphia.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Managing Director of School Operations at Hebrew Public, the Network Operations Manager (NOM) will hold a critical position within and closely coordinate and collaborate with other colleagues on the network team. The Network Operations Manager (NOM) will also interface and consult with school-based leadership team members.

The Network Operations Manager (NOM) serves as a member of the Network Operations Team, acting as a thought leader and spokesperson on behalf of the network and its diverse stakeholders, as well as presenting ideas, weighing in on problems and solutions, and engaging as a truly collaborative team player. The NOM collaborates with the Managing Director of School Operations and a broad range of leaders and stakeholders across the network to drive organizational change and decision-making, deftly balancing strategy formulation and execution, mobilizing others and exerting influence appropriately, and nimbly functioning as a leader, collaborator and contributor, based on the evolving needs of the organization. The NOM significantly contributes to developing and codifying necessary operations systems across the HP network, boosting existing school and network impact as HP expands to serve almost 1500 students in 2022.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure HP Charter Schools Operations are effective, coordinated and aligned to best practices
  • Support the long-term vision for effective network-wide operational practices in partnership with the MDO
  • Ensure that the schools capture and use operational data and meet internal and external goals and deadlines
  • Spearhead initiatives at the network level to support the enhancements of systems that will increase the quality of service delivery to all HP schools
  • Contribute to the capacity-building of school-based Directors of Operations and their teams in partnership with the MDO.
  • Serve as an on-call resource to the DOOs in all functional areas, providing direct support or redirecting to the appropriate network or operations staff member as required.
  • Troubleshoot facilities issues and support DOOs with managing contractors’ visits and services, including those of general contractors, plumbers, electricians, HVAC specialists, locksmiths, alarm security systems, roofers, etc.
  • Design onboarding and professional development for DOOs and their teams.
  • Prepare operations reports for various stakeholders.
  • Supporting Operational Systems, Protocols, and Procedures

High Level Key Priorities: Health & Safety, Facilities, Codifying Operational Practices, Drafting Operational Policy & Procedure (with direction & support from MDO)

  • Act as a key thought partner to the MDO
  • Ensure schools meet the highest standard of health and safety for students and staff across our network.
  • Ensure network-wide compliance with all health and safety laws and regulations (e.g. Schoolwide Safety Drills, Child Nutrition, BEDS, DOH).
  • Codify school operational practices and support the development and enhancement of operational systems.
  • Support operations teams in implementing summer work plans to ensure that operational systems are fully in place for a strong school launch.
  • Draft and interpret internal operational policies and procedures.
  • Inform all necessary stakeholders of operations requirements and updates.
  • Support school-based staff to ensure effective customer service and high-quality deliverables by sharing expertise, identifying resources (e.g. potential vendors, etc.), and helping to overcome obstacles and problem-solving to address challenges.
  • Assist MDO in quarterly and semi-annual school safety audits, reporting findings to school and network leadership.
  • Assist MDO in supporting operational school start-up plans for new schools and grades, and provide ongoing guidance to the DOOs.
  • Commitment to leveraging the existing strengths and supporting the continuous evolution of our communities, students, families and staff members
  • The Network Operations Manager (NOM) may also assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the MDO.

Educational Background and Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years as a top-performing, school-based Director of Operations, preferably in an urban charter school.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising and developing operations staff. Must have demonstrated a track record of success with people management (at least 2 direct reports).
  • Staff professional development, consulting and coaching experience.
  • Familiarity utilizing and managing student information systems (e.g. PowerSchool, ATS).
  • Strong command of Google Suite and other schools-based technology programs.
  • Preparation of non-financial compliance reports for a range of government and authorizing entities.
