Overview

The Director, Total Rewards will develop and deliver a compensation and benefits strategy that supports the business, attracts and motivates employees, and is fiscally and socially responsible, while maintaining all compliance requirements. The role will require collaborating with peers, senior management and vendors while listening to employee input and monitoring market conditions to address changing needs. The incumbent will manage all aspects of implementation, delivery, and on-going execution, communication, systems interfaces, and evaluation of programs vs objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Leading discussions and delivering recommendations regarding plan and program design and subsequently leading implementations for change.
  • Apply lean principles to all systems interfaces and data maintenance, engaging IT, finance, payroll, and vendors as necessary.
  • Ensure all required and proactive communications to leadership and employees are in place and executed for maximizing reach and engagement.
  • Review on-going plan operations, using metrics and data for balance of cost containment, competitive positioning, and based on employee needs.
  • Manage all third-party vendors and vendor relationships and associated contracts and performance guarantees; interact with portfolio company peers as necessary.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance, governmental filings, plan audits and program governance are sound and maintained in a compliant manner with necessary privacy and fiduciary training.
  • Manage periodic evaluation and reporting to ensure transparency, partnering with vendors and finance to establish and report against budgets and for proper forecasting. Mine data to understand variances and trends.
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain base compensation structure, acknowledging economic and industry evolutions and managing processes for wage adjustments and proper controls, including proper approvals of changes, annual review against market and ad hoc pay adjustment or equity requests.
  • Collaborate with business partners in operations and corporate leadership for the design and implementation of all incentive plans, including managerial bonus criteria and commission plans. This includes proper documentation, communication, interim accrual reporting, and period-end calculation oversight.
  • Prepare materials for executive compensation reporting for CHRO and Board needs.
  • Maintain & update core compensation fields within the system of record, currently UKG, for all pay structures, tracking and reporting.
  • Coordinate with employee development function for managing performance data in conjunction with compensation initiatives.
  • M&A due diligence and implementation responsibility relating to compensation and benefits programs.
  • Manage budget for plans and department.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Analytical ability to present a business case for any changes and to explain programs both strategically with alignment to business objectives and at an individual level
  • Financial acumen and demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions while keeping employee constituents and stakeholder objectives in mind
  • Deep knowledge of ERISA, ACA and associated regulations or best-practices relating to benefits and/or wage and hour requirements
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers, leaders, vendors
  • Ability to think and act as strategic partner while also managing data and certain transactional work
  • Strong people manager for coaching and mentoring staff of 2 and influencing colleagues when necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, masters preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing benefits plans and compensation programs.
  • CEBS and CCP preferred
  • Active participation in benefits, comp or HR associations to maintain current knowledge preferred

Location & Travel

  • Baltimore area required
  • Option for hybrid work model after initial period of company orientation and introduction
  • Approximate travel 10%
