Job description
General Statement of Responsibilities: The psychiatric-mental health practitioner focuses clinical practice on the promotion of optimal mental health, and the prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and medication management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders for clients involved in other HCA behavioral health services.

**Position Duties:
*Obtain and accurately document a relevant mental health history that includes evaluation of mental status, current and past history of abuse, violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, sexual behaviors, and social/developmental history*
**Develop a treatment plan for psychiatric disorders based on evidence-based standards of care, and practice guidelines
*Prescribe psychotropic medications based on clinical indicators of a patient’s status, including results of diagnostic and lab tests as appropriate, to treat symptoms of psychiatric disorders*
**Document all relevant client care issues in clients' progress notes and treatment plan
*Submit Prior Authorization requests for medications, as needed*
**Educate and assist the client in evaluating pharmacotherapy options, intended effects and potential adverse effects, as well as other treatment options
*Collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary team and involve clients, family members, and interdisciplinary team members in gathering information and planning treatment*
**Manage psychiatric issues or emergencies that arise between clinic days by determining the level of risk and recommending appropriate interventions or responses
*Advise treatment team on the transition of care to provide continuity of care and support for the client, family, and other health care providers, in the least restrictive manner possible*

*REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE CREDENTIALS:*
M.D., N.P., P.A.; psychiatric and/or behavioral health experience
Knowledge of:
· Child and Adolescent development/needs/behavior
· Mental health diagnosis & pharmochology
· Psychotrophic medications
· Medical protocol in prescribing psychotrophic medications
· Child and/or Adult psychopathology and diagnostic categories
· Treatment planning and implementation, reviewing, and updating of Person-Centered Plans.
· Medical/Clinical and Medicaid documentation standards and practices
· Interaction and Communication Strategies
· Cultural Competence
· Role/Purpose/Philosophy of Case Management Services
· Knowledge of mandated reporting requirements

Job Requirements
· Physical ability to: visually observe, speak, listen, independently move from one location to another throughout the day independently; drive to individuals’ homes and community settings and be able to independently access a wide range of physical buildings, including navigating steps, porches, etc.
