Health Care District of Palm Beach County is Hiring a LPN Near Lake Worth, FL

Overview

This position assess, plans and delivers nursing care under the direction of Director of Nursing, providing health services to patients in an outpatient setting. Employees in this position administer medication and treatments in the care of ill, injured, or infirmed patients, and promote wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness. This position is responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient’s medical records and clinic activities at all times. Performs with opportunity for independent judgment under general supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.Verifies any patient allergies prior to administration of medications.Documents the administration of medicine including dosage, medicine route, medicine site, and patient’sresponse as required in the documentation system.

Follows proper aseptic techniques in all medication preparation and administrationCollects specimens following clinic policy procedure.Utilizes personal protective equipment in performing duties where actual or potential exposure to hazardousconditions may be present.Follows the cleaning and disposal policies and procedures for all hazardous waste.Follows guidelines for performance improvement and demonstrates understanding of participation in CoreMeasures for the clinic and for documentation review process.Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients.Performs certain medical procedures including administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections,basic lab tests, dressing changes and suture/staple removal as needed.Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing suchtasks as giving injections or removing sutures.Provides lab results to physicians for review.Contacts patients with lab results as instructed by the physician.Participates in the orientation and mentoring of new staff members recognizing importance of bringing newstaff into friendly and supportive environment.Provides mentoring and training staff members as needed.Maintains competencies and participates in required training and in-services.Ensures completion of continuing education requirements in subjects pertinent to licensed practical nursingor position related information.Performs essential office operations, including maintaining various logs and liaising with hospital andphysician offices

Verifies patient’s identification in accordance with the policies and procedures.Interviews patients and records all gathered information in the patients chart.Assists the front office staff as needed.Prepares collected specimen for laboratory analysis, including properly completing proper lab requisitionforms.Orders supplies and maintains the back office. Ensures supplies are maintained and ordered in cost-effectivemanner.

Maintains and monitors biohazard receptacles.Maintains OSHA guidelines for the department.May be required to travel to alternate work sites during shift depending on assignment.

Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in cooperation with the school healthadministrative team. May be assigned to support a regular shelter in an assigned or assist in some aspect ofemergency relief efforts. May be assigned to assist the RN in the evaluation of health needs or services in RedCross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats ordisasters, man-made or natural.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Associate’s degree in nursing preferred.

Experince:

One (1) to three (3) years of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in an outpatient setting preferred.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Licensure:State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse required.Valid Florida’s driver’s license required.
