An experienced, compassionate midwife to guide patients through their pregnancies and deliver their babies if imminent. The midwife’s responsibilities include identifying high-risk pregnancies, stabilizing, and referring/transferring patients to a facility that has obstetrical services.
Essential Functions:
Triage obstetrical visits: rule out preterm labor, gestational hypertension, start treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum. Makes patient assessments and coordinate follow-up care.
Vaginally delivering patients’ in imminent situations not requiring surgical intervention as well as providing emotional support and encouragement during labor.
Taking and recording patients’ blood pressure, temperature, and pulse as well as ordering diagnostic tests as needed.
Helping patients to cope with miscarriages, stillbirths, and neonatal deaths.
Recognizes and determines at-risk patients and obstetrical emergencies and initiate treatment accordingly.
Perform sterile vaginal exams.
Ability to interpret fetal monitoring strips based on various categories according to AWHONN standards of care and treats appropriately.
Patient-level explanation of abnormal ultrasound and biophysical profile findings.
Assists the Health Care District’s Ground Transportation Service with the transporting of obstetrical patients as needed.
Ability to perform evidence-based, unbiased, apolitical, culturally competent care
Proven experience as a nurse-midwife in a hospital or OB-GYN setting

Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Education:
Graduate-level (Master’s degree)
Valid Florida Registered Nurse license
Participation in the Certificate Maintenance Program with the American Midwifery Certification Board (or eligible)
Experience:
Two or more years practicing as a midwife
Hospital experience preferred
Certification:
Current midwifery certification required
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred
Sugar and Safe Care, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work and Emotional Support (S.T.A.B.L.E.) preferred
Licensure:
Current Florida Advanced Practice Nursing License
Active, unrestricted Florida Nurse Midwife medical license
