OPENING: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR of K-8 ADMISSIONS

Full-time Exempt Position Starts July, 2023

Head-Royce School is looking for an Associate Director of K-8 Admissions who leads, manages and directs the admissions process for families interested in applying to School for all grades in the Lower (K-5) and Middle (6-8) School. This person will report to the Director of Admissions and counsels prospective families through the admissions process that begins with the family’s first contact with Head-Royce until the admission decision and ultimate enrollment occurs. This role includes organizing tours, activity days and screenings, open houses, phone conversations, written and email correspondence, and organization and implementation of yield activities.

The Associate Director of Admissions is responsible for guiding the admissions practices that encourage kindergarten through eighth grade families to consider Head-Royce, determine students’ eligibility, and encourage accepted families to enroll. The Associate Director is also part of the admissions team that ensures information about Head-Royce, including the school’s mission, is appropriately and accurately represented to the community at large.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Family Visits and Tours: responsible for planning, organizing and executing all aspects of family visits to Head-Royce. This includes, but is not limited to group tours, individual family visits, and lower and middle school open houses.

  • Lower School Screenings and Middle School Activity Days: responsible for organizing all aspects of the Lower School screenings and Middle School activity days that serve to determine appropriate students and families for Head-Royce.

  • Lower and Middle School Admissions Committee: the Associate Director is an integral part of the lower and middle school admissions committees and is responsible for organizing (with the Director of Admissions) meeting schedules, presentations of data, and determining strong candidates for admission to Head-Royce.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work with daily operations support staff to evaluate, update and provide quality control over admission print information (catalog, fair hand-outs, etc.) and application forms.

  • Track stages of admission folder completion including written correspondence to families and oversight of admission decision letters and phone calls.

  • Work with counselor/learning specialist and admission committee to responsibly gather extra information needed for applicants with history of social/emotional/learning struggles.

  • Work with parent volunteers to plan tours and open houses.

  • Work with the Director of Admissions to design and coordinate the admission committee processes.

  • Work with the Director of Admissions to design and coordinate enrollment management processes.

  • Provide support for and/or supervise short-term projects necessary to the success of the Admissions Office.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Minimum of two years experience with Kindergarten assessments and early childhood training

  • Minimum three years admission experience in independent schools required.

  • Work within a community that expects collegiality and open communication.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Comfortable working in and with diverse student and adult populations.

  • Proficient with Mac and databases: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Ravenna.

  • Excellent public speaking, telephone and writing skills.

  • Self-motivated, flexible, willing to work beyond traditional office hours, including evening and weekend events.

  • Experience with financial aid in independent schools is preferred.

  • Experience with organizing events is preferred.

Other Requirements: 

  • Must be fully vaccinated (and boosted) against Covid-19 and show proof of negative TB test within the last four years in addition to participation in background screening.
