Position Overview

The Director of IT is responsible for the oversight and technical operation management including security and infrastructure, both on premise (corporate and campuses) and in the Cloud. Responsibilities also include owning the change management and support processes and managing projects in the applicable scope. This role is also responsible for the Service Desk and KPIs associated. This position works with the Enterprise Architect and the IT Security team to ensure operational support, vulnerability management, and roles and responsibilities are continuously reviewed and enhanced.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and direct the infrastructure and operations team with responsibilities for servers, storage, and networking both on premise and within our Cloud hosting providers.
  2. 24x7 monitoring and support of IT systems and processes leveraging tools, internal staff, and vendor relationships to ensure early proactive detection and correction of problems.
  3. Service Management - Responsible for Change Management, Configuration Management, and Problem Management along with the Major Incident process. Own the problem resolution process including communication from the time issues arise thru resolution.
  4. Own the maintenance schedule and process including coordination of events like disaster recovery testing, penetration testing, security scans, audits, etc.
  5. Manage vendor relationships and adjust, as necessary, to provide secure, stable, efficient, and effective computing environment.
  6. System Reliability and Availability - Create KPI measurements and SLAs with internal and external customers and vendors to measure performance of all teams involved, including internal.
  7. Infrastructure Strategy - Maintain an understanding of industry and technology trends and how they may impact business operations. Assess the impact of industry trends to current and future enterprise infrastructure needs and projects.
  8. Security - Responsible for vulnerability management and patching for infrastructure. Ensure IT systems are properly hardened and protected.
  9. Budget - Manage spending within area of responsibility to adhere to budget.
  10. Continuous Improvement - Works with colleagues and staff to improve infrastructure costs, data center efficiency, and availability.
  11. Plan activities, inter dependencies, communication, and work items for teams around responsibility. Align with department and company strategy through prioritization and commitment in sprints planning.
  12. Talent Management - Manage the recruitment and hiring of staff and contractors. Manages goals and performance levels for direct reports and coach and develop team members, providing learning and career growth opportunities.
  13. Represent IT in discussions with the business before projects or initiatives are committed.
  14. Identify the root cause of issues and realize when dealing with symptoms, trust but verify claims.
  15. Research options to achieve goal and offer to business better fit solutions, if applicable.
  16. Work independently with minimal supervision.
  17. Own certain initiatives where applicable and see them to completion by coordinating communication and efforts. Complete plans and follow-up on open topics timely.
  18. Use data to provide insight on issues or root cause or validate theories and assumptions.
  19. Perform all duties with quality and a caring attitude towards internal and external customers.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • 5 years of hands-on management of IT operations, and infrastructure responsibility with broad exposure to system integrations, migrations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability aligning IT solutions to support business needs and strategy.
  • Strong project management background leading cross-functional teams and developing and executing plans on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detailed understanding of infrastructure design practices, infrastructure operations, technology standards, and vulnerability management.
  • Prior experience with infrastructure and operational support.
  • Experience in service, change, and problem management.
  • Ability to explain complex technical detail and tradeoffs to non-technical associates.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide team members in troubleshooting, issue resolution, and escalation.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of public Cloud providers (Azure) highly desired.
  • Understanding of DevOps principles, including automation/scripting and configuration management desirable.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure wile meeting strict deadlines.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Extensive experience and qualifications may be substituted for education, on a case-by-case basis.

Certifications: Highly desirable, in any computer related area or concentration

Special Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 5 years of technical experience and/or certifications
  2. Minimum 3 years prior departmental/team leadership experience.
  3. Minimum 2 years Project Management experience.
  4. Ability to communicate orally and written in a professional manner.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work well both alone and in a distributed team setting, including vendors, resellers, and partners.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access small spaces.

Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
