Director of Accounting and Finance
POSITION TITLE: Director of Accounting and Finance
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs duties to assist the Chief Financial Officer in his/her duties in the areas of accounting, budgeting, finance, payroll and office management; prepares financial reports and audited District financial statements.
- Assumes major responsibility and provides effective leadership of day-to-day operations for accounting, budgeting, finance, accounts payable, payroll and auditing, by determining standards for financial reports and statements, budgetary accounting and general ledger entries.
- Maintains general ledger system in order to accurately report District’s financial position and results of operations; oversees receipts and bank reconciliation.
- Assumes major responsibility for preparing all financial statements, DESE reporting and other financial information, as requested.
- Maintains payroll system in order to accurately pay all employees and report information to oversight bodies; reports payroll information to IRS, state and city as required.
- Develops and maintains financial investment plans and reporting for all invested
- Prepares annual District budget and completes a monthly analysis of expense and revenue to assess necessary budget amendments as required.
- Directs the general accounting activities of the district and all areas of responsibility in conjunction with Board policy, DESE compliance, and accounting principles that comply with the annual financial audit and all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversees the financial aspects of federal and state grants,
- Understands financial internal controls for cash receipts, cash disbursements, and journal entry supporting documentation.
- In performing assigned functions, coordinates work with district administrators, supervisors and directors; and the accounting, bookkeeping and data processing departments.
- With the technology department, administers the financial reporting system software regarding maintenance, user authorization, and general ledger configurations and processes.
- Manages district’s cash balances by reviewing monthly cash flow, manage transfers to optimize interest earnings, manage investment program relationships, manage payment processes and controls to minimize risk of fraud, ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed accurately and timely.
- Serves as District liaison to external auditing firm and coordinates annual audit schedule and preparation.
- Prepares all financial reporting, including the annual ASBR (Annual Secretary Board Report), annual audit financial statements, monthly financial statements, monthly warrants, debt/bond reporting, and other reports as necessary.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
Experience: Requires a minimum of three years of financial, accounting and office management experience.
