ABOUT THIS ROLE: 

You will be joining an experienced technology team as one of the main developers responsible for our advanced application suite. Experience with web development and distributed systems is a plus, although more important to us is real programming experience and thoughtfulness about how and why you do what you do.

Your job will require you to work closely with your fellow technology team members, to coordinate with QA resources, and to communicate with business team members in completion of your work. Working with other developers you might work on items such as:

• developing features for our frontend and backend systems
• creating workflows for managing the lifecycle of insurance products and their features
• building out brand new insurance products that are new to the market

The job will be varied and challenging. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

• Participate in a collaborative environment with other engineers, product managers, and other relevant internal stakeholders
• Help deliver features that make a difference to the company and our customers
• Drive high impact projects that align with the company’s strategy
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and help set/lead technical direction
• Communicate complex problems and solutions to people inside and outside their domain of expertise
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance developer / team productivity

REQUIREMENTS:

• 7 years experience as a developer
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Experience with multiple paradigms including object-oriented and functional programming (e.g. Typescript, Java, C#, C , Python, Ruby)
• Experience building complex customer-facing web applications using modern frameworks (Angular 2 preferred, and JavaScript/TypeScript)
• Solid grounding in event and data driven applications and concepts (messaging systems, data/object modeling, database systems)
• Strong design, modeling and organizational skills to help simplify and solve complex business problems that have many cross cutting concerns
• Demonstrated ability to explain complex problems and solutions to people inside and outside their domain of expertise
• Demonstrated ability to design, write, and edit technical and process documentation
• Proven track record demonstrating design, build and release of systems at scale
• Proven track record of building/managing high performing teams
• Ability to navigate complex and asynchronous systems 
• Experience with REST and Messaging systems at scale
• Authorized to work in the US with or without sponsorship

PREFERRED: 

• Testing strategy definition and framework creation
• Familiarity with containerization (ie Docker)
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or other Relational DBMS
• Familiarity with Microservice framework
• Comfortable expressing unique points of view while respecting the views of others
• Experience with Javascript as a programming language, node, meteor, and/or angular frameworks a plus
• Experience delivering unit tests along with new functionality
• Experience with event-driven Java programming (e.g Swing, GWT)
• Experience and familiarity with financial services or other mathematically oriented applications.
• Working in a startup or agile development environments
• Experience in multi-platform web-sites (desktop, mobile)
• Offers constructive feedback on areas of broader scope
