POSITION SUMMARY

The Prep Cook demonstrates professional behavior and promotes positive relationships with

clients and staff. The Prep Cook maintains a clean, safe work environment following sanitation principles in food handling and equipment use. The Prep Cook practices proper food preparation, food holding and display/marketing techniques that assure high quality food products and customer satisfaction.

RESPONSIBILITIES Other responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Completes all tasks, in order, on the prep list.
  • Labels and stocks all ingredients on easily accessible shelves following the FIFO method.
  • Washes, chops and sorts ingredients like fruits, vegetables and meats.
  • Measures quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients.
  • Parboils food, reduces sauces and starts first steps in various dishes.
  • Adheres to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards.
  • Presents food for service to the customer in an aesthetic manner.
  • Maintains high standards of food quality and appearance.
  • Utilizes work simplification techniques for effective use of time.
  • Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Follows standards of food safety in preparing, serving, and storing food.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation.
  • Follows established work schedule and procedures for cleaning equipment, utensils, and work areas
  • Maintains high standards of personal hygiene. Follows hand washing protocol.
  • Operates all equipment according to manufacturer's directions with particular emphasis given to safety guidelines.
  • Performs other duties associated with the position that are reasonably assigned to support the overall needs of the business.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Diploma from a culinary school preferred.
  • Food preparation experience or training desired.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation.
  • Must be able to follow a recipe unsupervised.
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Great attitude and good communication skills are needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting and dicing. Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat and work shifts. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
