HARIBO of America is Hiring a Compliance Specialist Near Pleasant Prairie, WI

HARIBO of America is excited about our brand-new manufacturing facility in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Compliance Specialist maintains the overarching compliance management program. This is a cross functional position that will support Quality, Food Safety, Safety Health and Environment Management, Security, Human Resources, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance. This position interprets regulations and requirements of regulatory agencies (Federal, State, and other), as well as internal, third-party, and customer requirements. This should include but not limited to FSSC 22000, SMETA, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), and This position should have a complete understanding of compliance requirements for the company. The position must determine the appropriateness of documents or procedures and standardize all documents to adhere to regulatory agency requirements, eliminating over documentation. This position will train employees engaged in document writing and coordination of such documents within a document compliance software.

Responsibilities: 

  • Primary owner and subject matter expert for factory compliance management program/software
  • Facility and execute the roll out of the factory compliance management program/software
  • Work with Quality, Food Safety, Safety Health and Environment Management, Human Resources, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance to understand and align on regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Evaluate existing documentation for applicability, completeness, and compliance
  • Drive and support the completion of non-conformance, management of change, and internal auditing through created systems and/or compliance software
  • Communicate with all departments to obtain needed information/documentation.
  • As required, serve as a technical writer for documents pertaining to production, food safety and quality, including policies, programs, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain registers required by the Quality Management System
  • Maintain a code library of current standard requirements from applicable certifying bodies such as FSSC 22000, SMETA and VPP.
  • Participate in program audits pertaining to documents and records to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Assist in evaluating, seeking, and providing recommendations to continuously improve our systems, processes, etc.
  • Ensure all compliance documents are up to date and revision logs are maintained.
  • Track and trend compliance task per department and challenge for on time completion of task and activities
  • Ensure a continuous improvement mindset for all key compliance programs
  • Train end users on all compliance management programs/software
  • Key contact between customers and HARIBO for compliance related document request 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science and/or Food Technology, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other science related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Quality Assurance or related field in Confectionary or Food Industry required. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Food Safety Certification knowledge
  • Knowledge of environmental and quality regulations on the Federal, State, and Local levels.
  • Proven understanding of FDA food regulations, including FSMA and labeling regulations.
  • Bachelor of Science or Technical Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Technical Writing, or related field required.
  • Two years of experience with food industry compliance practices and systems.
  • Applied knowledge in several regulatory related topics such as food safety, quality, consumer information, nutrition, compliance, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, or human resources
  • FSSC 22000/ISO 22000 Knowledge
  • OSHA and EPA knowledge
  • HACCP Certification and/or experience.
  • Must have strong written, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success at learning and explaining business processes
  • Ability to concisely communicate technical information
  • Experience creating procedure documents or policies
  • Ability to review and correct material for content, style, and compliance with internal and external standards
  • Strong Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated success utilizing or implementing a compliance document management software
  • Very organized with the ability to take charge of and complete projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work cross-functionally across departments is required.
  • Ability to lead, develop, coach and hold others accountable to HARIBO’s high standards. 
  • Ability to train others and coach to compliance.
