Hargrove Engineers Constructors is Hiring a Construction Manager Near Martinez, CA

What You'll Be Doing

Job Summary: Generally responsible for total delivery of services safely, on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations on moderately complex projects. Work at this level requires progressive experience in construction management and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under minimal supervision. This position will rotate between three turnaround sites loated in Martinez, CA, Houston, TX and Baton Rouge, LA. 

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Strong industrial construction management experience of large multi discipline sites.
  • Strong and effective leader and coordinator.
  • Work requires working from heights, climbing fixed ladders, and stairs, etc.
  • Organized, disciplined, able to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities and parallel tasks.
  • Understands quality standards as outlined by site.
  • Lead assigned portion of outage scope through planning and construction.
  • The successful execution of all the site construction works in accordance with the project schedule, cost and other KPIs.
  • Create detailed planning activities in P6 for each work order utilizing planning templates as applicable. Activities include individual tasks, manpower, durations, and assigned discipline. Generate mechanical job packages if required, including pictures, P&IDs, BOMs, tools, safe work procedures, applicable standards, QC requirements, etc.
  • Complete Material Takeoffs for requisitioning/purchasing purposes, includes field verification
  • Provide daily schedule updates during outage execution.
  • Maintain a strong and effective professional working relationship with the AP Project Management, Client, interfacing EPC’s, sub-contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership to ensure prompt prioritization and coordination of all unforeseen issues at the site, escalating to the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager as required.
  • Support Air Products Management of Change process, recognizing plant changes and following through on all documentation and recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Support and promote the implementation of the Project Safety, Security and Quality plans.
  • Support and promote the implementation of the Project Execution Plan.
  • Provide contractor field management in all outage phases for assigned contractors, including safety, timesheet verification, field oversight, change orders, and QC verification.
  • Uphold and communicate high standards of housekeeping in assigned areas and on all job sites. Conduct frequent formal housekeeping inspections of plant areas.
  • Complete close out and documentation as required by Air Products standards and procedures.
  • Overall responsibility for the construction work.
  • Overall responsibility for safety on the constructions site.
  • Leading Safety Meetings and Toolbox discussions
  • Participate in Safe Work Permitting Process with Operations
  • Safe Work Audits
  • Able to achieve various State mandated certifications, TWIC, and other requirements as may be deemed necessary.
  • Prioritize “Zero is achievable” safety policy in words and actions to protect self, others and the environment.
  • High ethical standards - unwilling to compromise on worker safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrates positive, supportive, and cooperative behavior in interacting with co-workers, supervisors and management.
  • Maintains confidentiality of written and verbal information pertaining to Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., its staff, management and participating onsite affiliates.

This position offers a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions.

Below is the range that we in good faith believe is the potential compensation for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Hargrove’s total compensation package for Teammates. Actual compensation will be based on education, experience, skill set and location. 

Minimum Salary: $155,000 annually

Maximum Salary: $187,000 annually

Ideal Background

Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Construction Science, Building Science or related field from an accredited university is highly preferred.

Licensing: General Contractors License is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires a minimum 10 years of experience in maintenance and/or engineering disciplines, preferably with experience in industrial outages, exchangers, pumps, hydrotesting and pipe fabrication

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, ISO’s, piping isometrics, fixed equipment design packages, and pipe specs.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and business software, including Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook) OneNote, SAP, Primavera P6.
  • Experience with a variety of heavy equipment, especially cranes, preferred.
  • Experience with piping design and understanding of ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3
  • Willing to work a wide variety of scheduled days and hours, including night shift, following strict fatigue management guidelines.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Works professionally and harmoniously with co-workers, supervisors, management, support personnel, program participants, and business-related persons.
  • Utilizes positive and constructive attitude toward resolution of problems and conflicts.
  • Accepts direction, criticism, and supervision.
  • Demonstrates ability to remain calm in demanding situations.
  • Ability to work within and promote a teamwork philosophy.
  • Makes good use of time, completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate and perform efficiently and reliably all categories of this document.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates.
  • Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment such as a fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, ear plugs and hard hat.
