Responsibilities:
Prepare plans, details, cross sections, schedules, and mapping for transportation projects (30%). Develop quantity calculations and construction cost estimates based engineering design (10%). Conduct field reviews of existing topography to supplement and verify survey data (5%). Design traffic signals, signing, striping, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and temporary traffic control for transportation projects (25%). Perform traffic analysis for transportation facilities using Highway Capacity Manual methodologies, analysis software, and simulation models. Develop traffic study reports to document existing conditions, organize analysis results, and provide recommended improvements for transportation facilities (15%). Coordinate traffic engineering activities with other transportation disciplines. Review and verify quality of design and project deliverables prepared by coworkers (10%). Assist in development of new business opportunities via client meetings, participation in promotional activities, and professional organizations. Participate in project scoping, fee estimating and scheduling (5%). ***Telecommuting options available on an as needed basis within Salt Lake County.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and 5 years of traffic engineering experience. In alternative, we accept a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, 3 years traffic engineering experience. This position also requires ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Utah within six months; experience with design standards from the “Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices” and “A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets”; experience with “Americans with Disabilities Act” requirements for transportation facilities; experience with traffic analysis methodologies following the “Highway Capacity Manual”; experience with HCS and Synchro traffic analysis software; experience with development of travel demand volumes and network distribution using data from the “Institute of Transportation Engineers Trip Generation” manual; experience with Microstation, Inroads, Open Roads Design, SignCAD, and AutoTurn design software; and experience with design of traffic signal systems
