Grundy County Special Education Cooperative is Hiring a Special Education Paraprofessional Near Campus, IL

Job Title: Program Assistant

Reports to: Certified Teacher, Program Coordinator, Building Administrator

Specific Responsibilities: Primary responsibility is to assist students at the direction of the teacher to allow students to achieve the highest level of independence within the academic and social setting as possible. An assistant works under the supervision of the classroom teacher in the following areas. The assistant may perform other duties as assigned.

1. Individual Student Care: (as applicable)

a. Assist student off and on bus at the beginning and end of day.

b. Accompany student to lunch and assist in feeding, when necessary.

c. Assist student in toileting, transfers and hygiene issues as necessary.

d. Maintain documentation logs on activities/behaviors of student as directed by the teacher.

e. Become familiar with various technology and equipment based on student need.

2. Classroom Organization:

a. Design and construct bulletin boards in classroom and hallway.

b. Assist in preparing materials for instruction, including making copies.

c. Assist in grading papers and classroom organization as needed.

3. Supporting Instructional Duties:

a. Implement teacher designed review/reinforcement activities.

b. Assist all students in classroom during centers, small groups, etc. as directed by the teacher.

c. Assist in modifying materials from the general education classroom as necessary.

d. Collaborate with related services and teaching staff.

e. Support use of technology devices, augmentative communication, and adaptive materials.

f. Support differentiated instruction.

g. Accompany and assist students in related services, specials, lunch, recess, and/or general education classes as needed.

h. Data collection support.

i. Job coaches supervise and help students generalize their employment skills to the work setting.

i. Required to drive to job locations in district vehicles.

ii. Yearly, take classes, an exam, and physical to hold appropriate license.

4. Dealing with Behavior:

a. Complete Crisis Prevention Intervention Training if needed.

b. Monitor all students for appropriate behavior.

c. Enforce classroom and school rules.

d. Implement individual and behavior plans as directed by the teacher.

5. Related to Building Activities:

a. Monitor hallway, bus and bathroom as needed.

b. Follows GCSEC and building level procedures (call to Coop, absence procedures, etc.).

c. Attends GCSEC trainings.

d. Attends IEP and team meetings as needed.

e. Building level supervisory duties/other building level duties as assigned.

6. Physical Demands:

a. Occasionally, but essentially, the employee must be able to walk, bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person, squat/stoop, reach above the head, reach forward, climb in/out of vehicles, lift up to 25 pounds from shoulder to overhead, lift up to 50 pounds floor to waist, push/pull items over 90 pounds on wheel over carpeted, tiled, concrete, paved, dirt or other outdoor surfaces, and carry up to 50 pounds 15-25 feet.

7. Always maintain student confidentiality. Maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
