Overview

TITLE: PLANT MAINTENANCE MANAGER

LOCATION: SHAFTER, CA

COMPENSATION: $90,000 - $130,000 / YEAR

PURPOSE:

Lead the site Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and pro-active, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. Responsible for planning, scheduling, creating and overseeing the adherence and timely completion of work. Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery; implement programs that reduce downtime while managing and implementing improvement plans while driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI's). Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures while also mentoring and leading the department. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • To maintain and ensure operation of production related equipment and responsible for the replacement of parts and inventory related to the facility. Refine, maintain, and drive the preventive maintenance program. Oversee and maintain buildings and grounds. Have a good understanding of auxiliary equipment such as water systems, air compressors, refrigeration systems, etc. Communicate both written and verbal with equipment manufacturers and vendors. Must fully train personnel in basic through high-level maintenance tasks. Schedule, plan, direct and manage work force. Practice and enforce good safety habits.
  • Strategy and Development: Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice maintenance vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance. Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Maintenance activities. Coordinate and collaborate with centralized support departments to ensure projects are scheduled and supported.
  • General and Task Management: Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift and small projects to the right skills in the team, planning and managing effective works. Adhere to daily and weekly checks to ensure smooth operation of site. Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule that minimizes unplanned downtime and creates a predictive maintenance profile. Schedule both internal and external work(s) to maximizing planned downtime and reducing unplanned downtime. Manage the team to ensure machine availability, reactively managing dysfunctional machinery with the Shift management. Optimize equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality, ensuring the achievement of all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Manage the process of the introduction of new machinery, plant and equipment from drawing up the specification, to managing suppliers through to full installation in collaboration with all relevant parties. Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required. Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility. Understand, plan, and carry-out all manufacturer recommended services.
  • People Management: Manage, coach and develop a high performing Maintenance team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements. Set department objectives/KPIs and review ongoing performance of direct reports. Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required. Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them. Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability. Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels. Motivate and coach the team to operational success. Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
  • Financial and Budget Control: Input and hold responsibility for maintenance budgets. Prepare the annual Maintenance budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout much of the working day at various heights. Ability to work outdoors. Ability to move in food processing facilities (sometimes through narrow passages, in wet areas, or on elevated platforms). Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to operate hand and power tools. Must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 120° F and as cold as -20° F to 32° F). Must be able to work in a high noise area.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional, technical or administrative training (2-year Associate Degree) or 4-year Technical Degree (work experience can be substituted for Associate Degree)
  • A minimum of 10 years work-related experience is required
  • An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable
  • Knowledge of maintenance, engineering or automation field, or knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques involving food manufacturing is required
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Experience in the development and execution of operational budgets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
  • Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on business need

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record
  • Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen
