Job Title: Front of House Supervisor

Reports To: Food and Beverage Manager & Front of the House Manager 

Type of position: Non-Exempt / Hourly 

Employee Classification: Core

Location: Bryson City, NC

Compensation: $15-18

Job Summary: The Front of the House (FOH) Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to support the Front of the House Manager. The Front of the House Supervisor supervises the day-to-day duties, responsibilities, and activities of the Front of the House employees which include servers, attendants, and onboard concessions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between the food and beverage employees and management.
  • Participates in recruiting and interviewing for the Front of the House.
  • Assists with planning and organizing all the food and beverage department activities to ensure the goals and objectives are reached and consistent with established company policies and procedures. Periodically perform audits of employee processes including taking orders, mixing drinks, cash handling, counting down drawers, cleaning, route narration, and customer service. 
  • Must be able to manage and resolve customer service requests/complaints. 
  • Promote a positive work environment and aid in daily productivity.
  • Must be able to delegate duties and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Provide clear and professional communication and direction to employees to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure that the quality of service meets or exceeds expectations set by the department manager.
  • Advise management with any employee performance issues and offer your input on coaching, disciplinary and/or corrective actions.
  • Consistently provide verbal and written feedback to FOH Manager and BOH Managers to identify any problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Cross train with BOH to ensure competent understanding of department overlaps. 
  • Ensure all orders are received and stored properly while practicing FIFO and proper rotation.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation procedures are being met by planning and executing daily and weekly cleaning projects.
  • Acknowledge and provide an appreciation for employees who consistently go above and beyond the expectation of their daily duties and requirements.
  • Assist with cash handling, daily deposits, ordering, Square POS system, and inventory.
  • Ensure opening and closing duties are completed efficiently and thoroughly. 
  • Participate and lead employees in daily, weekly, and monthly trainings and safety briefings to ensure up-to-date knowledge.
  • Direct, oversee, and accomplish any special projects requested by GM and/or AHR/GSMR senior management
  • Other duties as requested by VP/GM, and/or AHR/GSMR senior management.

Work Environment:

  • Work on and off the train in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours. 
  • Good balance/equilibrium: walk on moving trains, graveled, uneven, and/or sloped surfaces that may be wet/slippery while carrying supplies.
  • Utilize and operate general office equipment, Square POS system, and various kitchen equipment including but not limited to Wi-Fi devices, golf cart, PA system, cash register, Word, Excel, Email, meat slicer, two-way radio, and printer/copier/scanner. 
  • Varied schedule throughout the year dictated by train schedule and departmental need. 
  • Works directly with the public. 

Requirements

Education, Skill, and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English, possessing good leadership and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage people. 
  • Must have at least 1 year of proven supervisory experience, preference is given for experience in Hospitality and/or Food and Beverage. 
  • Must have strong knowledge of food, preparation, and trends. 
  • Must have an understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation regulations. 
  • Must have strong knowledge of wine, liquor, and beer, with the ability to bartend. 
  • Must have an understanding of the State of North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Commission’s Responsible Alcohol Seller Program (RASP). Current certification preferred. 
  • Must have accurate cash handling, credit card (PCI/security), and billing knowledge. 
  • ServSafe certified or the ability to achieve in 90 days.
  • Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have the ability to uphold consistent standards and accountability.
  • Must possess organizational skills with the ability to multi-task while prioritizing workload with a practical, flexible and innovative approach to work.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment DMV check, background check, and WorkSteps physical evaluation. Ability to pull, push, or carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate successfully with a variety of personalities and function effectively as a leader of a team
