FLSA: Exempt EOE

REPORTS TO: Dean of Academics

CONTRACT PERIOD: 10 Months 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Academics Coordinator supports the mission of Central Catholic primarily by supporting instruction, curriculum, and students’ academic success. They will manage a caseload of students who need additional supports either due to a documented learning difference, poor performance in classes, and/or extenuating circumstances. The Academic Coordinator will facilitate the partnership between the faculty and the parents to help create, implement, and follow up on a student success plan. They will collaborate with counselors and teachers to ensure students’ learning needs are met. They will work with faculty to plan, deliver, and/or assign relevant professional development to support the above objectives. They will support teachers in their use of technology tools such as Blackbaud. They will analyze standardized testing data to help make informed recommendations about academic improvement. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic Education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Upholds the Code of Ethics for Educators and practices the characteristics of a Marianist Education.
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Attends and participates in the scheduled In-Service days required by TCCED 
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other employees 
  • Maintains good relationships and works cooperatively with faculty & staff including fellow teachers, supervisors, support staff, pastors and clergy, Archdiocesan officials, parents & students, and members of the community. 
  • Follows all rules and regulations concerning staff conduct, appropriate dress, program procedures, and other responsibilities as set forth in the staff handbook and by administration
  • Coordinates an annual meeting with each student who has an ISP, his family, and his teachers to proactively plan for the support and implementation of the ISP
  • Create and maintain a Student Success Program which supports the success of students who are struggling academically.
  • Holds afternoon, before-school, and weekend tutorial periods to offer students additional time, resources, and supports.
  • Creates Student Success Plans for students referred to the Student Success Program.
  • Be knowledgeable regarding administrative policies and procedures that are implemented in academic practices, and help train staff accordingly.
  • Responds in a positive and supportive manner to instructional staff questions, concerns, and needs
  • Responds to parent inquiries and concerns appropriately
  • Informs administrative staff of student or staff concerns as appropriate
  • Coordinates and oversees PSAT, SAT, and AP testing for students with approved College Board testing accommodations.
  • Serves as the SSD Coordinator for College Board
  • Works closely with the dean of academics and counselors to track and intervene on behalf of students needing additional academic support
  • Serves as a member of the Academic Council
  • Submits reports to the Board Academics Committee regarding the progress of the Student Success Program
  • Other Duties as Assigned

  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong initiative and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Able to manage student behavior
  • Able to communicate effectively in both reading and writing
  • Skill in critical thinking and job planning

MENTAL/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Able to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, furniture, and or equipment 
  • Able to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear & see and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing & reading
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with loud noises
  • Prolonged and weekend work anticipated
  • Exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather.

COMPENSATION: 

  • Salary: Starting salary of $50,000
  • Benefits: Full benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, and Retirement
