Requirements

Position Title: Youth Development Coordinator
Reports to: Branch Executive Director

Department: Youth Programs

Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt

Compensation: $16.00-$18.00/hour

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Youth Development Coordinator manages and coordinates all existing youth programs for the YMCA of Northern Michigan. This position ensures the effective and impactful delivery of existing programs and creates and implements new program opportunities commensurate with participant and community needs. This position will work directly with and for the Branch Director to hire, train, evaluate and schedule program staff and will work directly with parents, guardians, school personnel and others through consistent channels of communication to facilitate meaningful program options.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist Branch Director with recruitment, training and scheduling program staff and volunteers as needed
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of participation and impact of programs
  • Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations as they relate to program areas and delivery
  • Ensure programs operate within established guidelines and budget and that all program fees are collected
  • Actively engages and is in ratio in youth programs as it relates to staffing levels and needs of the branch
  • Demonstrate and ensure that YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed
  • Organize and conduct parent orientation meetings as needed for programs 
  • Maintain proper records/department files
  • Provide proper correspondence to parent or community inquiries and concerns while keeping the Branch Director updated
  • Provide cleaning and upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment to ensure a safe environment
  • Participate in YMCA fundraising activities and special events as assigned by the Branch Director
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Bachelor degree or higher in ECE or child development or related field
  • Associate degree or higher in ECE or child development
  • Montessori credential with 480 hours of experience
  • Valid CDA with 480 hours of experience
  • High school graduate with a combination of 12 semester hours in ECE or child development, or a child related field and 960 hours of experience
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to relate well to diverse groups of people
  • Possess and demonstrate a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values
  • Current certification in CPR and AED; complete trainings in Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds
  • Variable work hours as needed
