Apply today! Grand Canyon University’s Police Department is seeking full time Police Officers to ensure the safety and security of the GCU campus. The GCU Police Department performs general and specialized police work involving the enforcement of laws and ordinances, crime prevention, and other community services. GCU Police Officers serve a very positive and supportive campus community. What you will do: Patrols assigned areas of Grand Canyon University owned properties, by automobile, foot or bicycle, for the prevention of crime and enforcement of all applicable criminal, traffic, and liquor laws and City Ordinances. Responds to calls for service involving crimes such as thefts, robberies, assaults, homicides, and narcotics violations. Responds to all calls for service including those that do not involve crimes but are civil or societal issues requested police presence. Secures the scene of a crime; makes arrests; books suspects. Prepares reports to accurately document information. Responds to hazardous materials incidents and traffic accidents; investigates traffic accidents; detects impaired drivers; administers first aid; directs traffic and requests medical assistance. Participate in problem oriented policing efforts by identifying problem areas, recommending and implementing solutions, and monitoring the results. Handle hostage negotiations; performs suicide prevention interventions; transports mentally ill patients. Serves court orders (e.g., subpoenas), arrest warrants, and mental health orders. What you need: High school diploma, or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years as a Police Officer. Must have Arizona Post Certification, either active or inactive. Must continuously meet all requirements and standards of AZ POST. Must have valid Arizona Driver’s License and be insurable. Ability to obtain and maintain ACJIS Terminal Operator’s Certification. Must successfully pass a physical exam, polygraph test, psychological assessment, physical agility test, background investigation, and drug test. Ability to work four 10-hour shifts per week; overtime, holiday, weekend and shift work (days, swings or grave yard shifts). Occasional risk includes physical hazards from violent, aggressive and hostile people, a variety of weapons, bodily fluids, sharp objects, traffic, drugs and drug paraphernalia and civil litigation due to performance of duties also creating high stress situations.
