Position Overview

As the Data Specialist on our Product Team and reporting to the Senior Manager of Product Management, you will be responsible for processing data to be used in our client engagements. You will work closely with other members of the Product and Client Delivery teams, our company partners (i.e.: Aunalytics), and clients/TPAs/brokers as needed.

Main Purpose of this Role:

The Data Specialist is our resident data expert! This person is a key resource in assisting with acquiring the necessary data from our customers/Third Party Administrators/brokers, and then normalizing the data so that an audit or related service may be completed. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, demonstrates investigative and problem-solving skills, is an excellent communicator, and is comfortable working directly with customers/Third Party Administrators/brokers when needed.

As we look to enhance our product and service offerings, this role would also participate in process improvement initiatives to find ways to be more efficient and accurate in our data acquisition and ingestion processes. Your role and responsibilities may change over time as the company evolves.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Utilize analytical skills to develop, maintain, standardize ad hoc reporting processes in support of client deliverables and product development research

  • Facilitate consistency and efficiency in processing data from disparate data sources

  • Maintain documentation related to disparate data sources and update lookup tables, data definitions, and formatting changes as required

  • Ensure data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoot problems, conduct root cause analysis, and develop cost effective resolutions for data processing

  • Provide input into data governance initiatives to enhance current systems, ensure development of efficient application systems, influence the development of data policy, and support overall corporate and business goal

  • Utilize technology to analyze data from applicable systems to review data processes, identify issues, and determine actions to resolve or escalate problems that require data, system, or process improvement

  • Verify accuracy of table changes and data transformation processes, testing changes prior to deployment as appropriate

  • Recommend and implement enhancements that standardize and streamline processes, assure data quality and reliability, and reduce processing time to meet client expectations

  • Communicate progress and completion to project teams, identifying and escalating roadblocks that impact delivery schedules

  • Follow company policy and procedures to protect sensitive data and maintain compliance with established security standards and best practices

  • Collaborate on internal research and development projects as requested

  • Achieve a majority of weekly commitments and assigned Individual and Team goals during applicable performance periods

  • Participate in BMI’s culture of transformation in the spirit of enhancing scalability, process improvement, generation of new ideas on existing service offerings, or making key insights using available data

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, prior data and analytics experience preferred

  • Superior time management, detail orientation, organizational skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to, and manage, multiple priorities or projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, with a blend of business acumen and technical skills

  • Ability to translate complex data scenarios across a wide variety of team member backgrounds

  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with team members across an organization

  • Proficiency and experience with various Microsoft Office programs, SQL or other data analysis tools

  • Proactive, self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
