PEO Digital oversees a portfolio of enterprise-wide information technology programs designed to enable common business processes and provide standard IT capabilities to Sailors at sea, Marines in the field, and their supporting systems.
The Senior Network Engineer- IPv6 will have expertise in IPv4 to IPv6 transition and support of an IPv6 enterprise network. The engineer will provide strategic recommendations and analyze requirements in the form of white papers, Business Case Analysis (BCA), technology and business roadmaps, authoring and editing Statement of Objectives (SOOs) to the vendor, and by engaging in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) as required by the Program Office. The engineer will provide technical planning and support for various strategic initiatives such as Security Stacks, Cloud migration, and Boundary Peering with DISA. Additionally, the engineer engages with industry to create strategies for evolving the services and delivery of HW/SW products to keep pace with Industry and to best meet the need of the warfighter. This position is supporting the United States Marine Corps (USMC).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs analysis of operational plans and capabilities; develops improvement recommendations optimizing network traffic patterns and performance characteristics.
Develops and/or recommends resolutions to customer and service provider network and/or capability issues.
Participates in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network components (e.g., routers, switches)
Supports Service Delivery planning, activities, and analysis.
Conducts network analysis and feasibility studies, produces technical papers, briefs, and recommendations.
Assists in the development of cloud strategy, to include identifying access points and platforms.
Applies network systems management principles, models, methods (e.g., end-to-end systems performance monitoring), and tools.
Participates in design activities and capability testing
Drafts, reviews, and revises acquisition documentation, including Management Plans; Statements of Work; and Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs).
Coordinates with internal and external program stakeholder organizations, to include facilitating and/or leading stakeholder meetings.
Provides recommendations to establish, improve, and/or change directives, regulations, operating instructions, policies, processes, and procedures within the area of assigned responsibility.
Manages assigned tasks, projects, and areas of responsibility.
Develops and presents executive-level briefs
Manages IP address planning and recommends improvements to routing design
Coordinates with system developers, administrators, and network technicians to identify root causes of system and application issues.
This position does not require travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
10 years experience or Master's degree plus equivalent experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience planning, designing, and implementing IPv6 transition
5 years of experience supporting a federal agency’s engineering requirements
Experience in maintaining network STIG compliance
Expert knowledge of network traffic flows across the network as defined by the OSI (Open System Interconnection Model)
Hands on experience with networking technologies: routing and switching concepts and network design methodologies
Knowledge of VoIP, VTC, VLAN, DMZ, Cisco IOS, WLAN, MPLS, QOS, NAT, IPv6, SD-WAN/SDN
Knowledge of diverse types of network communication (LAN/WAN/MAN/WLAN/WWAN/4G/5G).
Familiarity with INCOSE, and Systems Engineering processes, SysML and MBSE methodology.
Experience with enterprise network management/performance management software tools
Ability to work on a team as a member or a task lead, while keeping the overall project goal on schedule project management and engineering technical management techniques, principles, and practices
Ability to think independently with minimal oversight, as well as demonstrate exceptional written and oral communications skills
Exemplary customer/client management skills and techniques
Excellent organizational skills Excellent public speaking and personal interaction skills
Knowledge of network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth, zero-trust).
Experience with business/operations solution architectures (i.e., portals, service management, networks, inventory)
Preferred Qualifications:
CCNA or JNCIA and CompTIA certification preferred.
IAT Level III: CASP, CISSP required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Azure / Amazon AWS Networking and architecture a plus.
Minimum Education:
Bachelors degree.
