The GoodLife nurse plays an important role supporting the Administrator/Manager in the care we provide for our residents. Each GoodLife nurse should do the following upon entering the GoodLife home:

Read the Communication Log

• Read the observations written by care staff in the eMar

• Check the Narcotic Logbook to ensure:

• The Resident Narcotic Log matches each Individual Resident Narcotic Count Sheet

• The Resident Narcotic Count sheets match the amount of narcotics

• Check your inbox for Incident Reports and 72-hour post-incident logs.

• If the manager has signed it, follow up with any medical requirements

• Sign them and file in the Incident Report Binder

• Check your inbox for used Individual Narcotic Count Sheets. File them in the Narcotic Destruction Binder

• Check your inbox for faxes to follow up on

• Check for new Doctor’s Orders

• Read Progress Notes from nurses, aides and doctors from other agencies

• Enter changes in the Significant Change Log including any changes in Independent Departures

• Make Care Plan Changes as required by the Significant Change Log

New Admissions:

• Enter the new resident into the eMAR based on the information given (discharge summaries, physician assessments, etc.)

• Enter resident’s medications into the eMAR

• Obtain orders for the resident’s medications to put in resident chart

Other tasks to perform Daily, Weekly and/or Monthly

Weekly:

• Weekly face to face visit with each resident and document in the eMAR

• Use Med Needs List to order meds by faxing pharmacies and/or doctors

• Follow up on Med Error reports and file in Med Destruction Log

• Document non-narcotic Pharmacy Deliveries in Pharmacy Delivery Log

Monthly

-Delegate med trained staff

-Attend care plan meetings with manager and families as needed

-Nursing Assessments due every 6 months (maintain accurate list)

-complete a Level of Care form and give to the Manager

-complete the Assessment on the eMAR system

-Care Plans every 6 months or as a significant change in condition dictates

-Are any assessments needed that support the Resident Nurse’s Assessment?
