Summary:
CP Marine seeks an individual(s) with an extensive railway engineering background that emphasizes planning, evaluation, and implementation of betterments to infrastructure and/or other system components (e.g., equipment and related support facilities) and concomitant operating improvements.
CPMG is seeking Civil Engineer in Washington, DC.
Essential Job Functions:
Analyzing existing operating patterns, performance, and assets, and on that basis, by locating, designing, evaluating, and prioritizing potential betterments,
Assist the Board in building the investigatory record.
Responsible for creating and evaluating plans for increasing line capacity, alleviating congestion, and reducing train delays.
Involve identifying potential physical improvements such as adding sidings and interlockings, lengthening turnouts, and upgrading complex track configurations, e.g., in terminal areas, estimating costs, and evaluating the effects of such improvements by means of manual (stringline) or computer-based train performance calculators and traffic simulators. Because rail system performance depends on an interplay between the design characteristics and current capabilities of fixed plant, rolling stock, signaling/train control, and other key system components, the betterments could also include changes to a wide variety of components, combined and in isolation.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
5 years of experience working for a freight or passenger rail carrier.
Able to evaluate railroad operations, design track layouts that improve train performance and reduce conflicts, specify inputs (including equipment and other factors) to, and run, train performance calculators and traffic simulators addressing both scheduled and unscheduled operations, and have knowledge of rail line construction.
Evaluate the feasibility, costs, and benefits, including safety requirements, for building physical rail line improvements as well as making changes to other key system components.
Minimum Qualification:
Have freight and/or passenger rail operations knowledge, coupled with analytical skills gained from formal training (an engineering degree).
Ability to do light computer coding and the ability to do statistics work.
