Location: The Gold Park campground has 12 sites located along Homestake Creek in the Homestake Valley in a forested setting. There is one site (#4) dedicated as a host site that has a storage shed. All sites have food lockers. Most sites have ADA tables and fire rings. There is no drinking water, electric or cellular service available.

Holy Cross Wilderness is nearby; all wilderness regulations must be observed when traveling in the wilderness (foot and horse travel only). There are several trailheads into the wilderness within driving distance of the campground and the Homestake Reservoir is about 3 miles further west on Homestake Road.

There area is popular with Jeep 4WD enthusiasts since the Holy Cross Jeep Road is access from the Homestake Road FSR703.

Forest System Road (FSR) 703 and FSR 704 are heavily impacted by dispersed camping. There are approximately 25 sites along these open roads including the old Blodgett area which was a campground prior to 2006. Gold Park Campground is approximately 6 miles west along the Homestake FSR703 Road.

Recently, the WRNF instituted new regulations reducing the stay limit from 14 days to 7 days from May 21 to September 1 annually. Campers along this open road are also required to be self-contained for their solid human waste and pack the waste out or use an approved system such as a camper with a holding tank, composting toilet, or an approved bag system. Lastly, there is a party size limit along this road and other roads in this geographic area of no more than 40 people.

The WRNF plans to enter into an environmental analysis in the next few years to assess the impacts of designating a specific number of dispersed campsites. These campsites could include features such as compacted areas, food lockers, and fire rings. The WRNF would assess hazards in and around the sites as part of the analysis and implementation. Once a decision has been finalized the WRNF will pursue funding options to make the necessary changes to the sites and install the necessary features.

It is intended that once designated and outfitted, the concessionaire would manage these sites for a fee. The fee would be commensurate with the services provided, garbage service at remote locations, security and safety visitation, and fire safety. The site(s) would meet the required Federal Land Recreation Enhancement Acts list of provided features for charging a fee at an expanded amenity site: (at least 5 of the 9) tent or trailer spaces, picnic table, drinking water, access road, collection of the fee by an employee, reasonable visitor protection, refuse container, toilet facilities, simple devise for a campfire. It would be the intention of the WRNF to maintain the self-contained human waste regulation.
