BASIC FUNCTION: Work in a direct care capacity with individuals diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities to teach daily living skills as a certified Direct Support Professional (DSP) registered with Illinois' Department of Human Services. Ensure the operational, programming, and licensure compliance needs of the home are maintained under the supervision of the Program Manager.

SCOPE: Provide training/assistance to individuals diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities in areas of self-care, hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping and laundry duties, socialization and recreation, community access, and other activities of daily living. Collect documentation and data as required. Attend scheduled staff meetings. Communicate professionally with individuals served, co-workers, and outside-agency personnel.

WORK PERFORMED:

  • Provide direct care to and promote independence for adults diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities in all areas of community life, including: personal hygiene; personal care; activities of daily living; behavior supports; medication administration; meal planning/adhering to dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times, by following daily and weekly cleaning tasks and engaging in regulatory life safety practices (i.e. water temperature checks, safety drills, quarterly site reviews, ensuring a stocked First Aid Kit, etc.).
  • Follow assigned curriculum/activity schedules and helping individuals achieve their Implementation Strategies (IS) outcomes and objectives through various means (i.e. leading community integration activities; following Glidepath Curriculum; following Day Programming; following behavior treatment plans etc.).
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of ISs through completing mandatory paperwork, including: daily logs, progress notes, behavior tracking, incident reports, 1:1 logs, daily attendance sheets, etc.
  • Operate and maintain the cleanliness of Glenkirk vehicles. Completing necessary paperwork associated with vehicle trips. Demonstrating the ability use vehicle tie downs and lifts, as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 18 years of age;
  • U.S. high school diploma or GED educational evaluation by an approved and licensed agency if you were educated outside of the United States;
  • Ability to pass a background check: Criminal, DCFS (CANTS);
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and good driving record;
  • Ability to pass the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)
