I. Purpose of Position To lead and provide technical direction to theteam of Mechanical and Electrical engineers at Gleason Metrology Systems. Toprovide and ensure technical excellence and practicality as a professionalindividual and team contributor supporting and applying mechanical engineeringanalysis, concept design and detailed mechanical design for new, existing andlegacy Gleason Metrology Systems’ (GMS) products. To support engineeringactivities related to new product development activities for Gleason Metrology Systemsutilizing Gleason Product Development process. To drive the design maintenance and enhancement of current Gleasonproducts based on requirements collected from Gleason global sales,applications and field service personnel. Job requires up to 5% travel (bothforeign and domestic). II. Key Responsibilities Directly contribute to the mechanical engineering design analysis of custom gear metrology systems design and provide the mechanical engineering leadership on various customer specific machine design projects and system solutions Lead the development of high quality metrology machines incorporating the Voice of the Customer (VOC), state-of-the-art technologies combined with creative thinking to consistently exceed customer expectations. Establish processes/procedures for the effective operation of the engineering department - encompassing specification, design, prototype development, testing, documentation, production and field support. Provide project management for multidisciplinary projects involving engineering Develop, revise and monitor suitable metrics to measure the quality of engineering designs. Show continuous improvement in the quality of GMS products. Plan and complete engineering projects to schedule and within budget Plan and coordinate training and development of hardware engineering department. Support customer service issues in a timely manner. III. Relationships · Reports to General Manager –Sales & Engineering· Facilitates the efforts of Mechanical Design Engineer and Electrical Design Engineer indirect reports· Facilitates support for servicedepartment to resolve field issues in a timely manner. · Facilitates support for productionpersonnel during machine build and applications engineering during machinerunoffs.· Takes ownership of engineeringissues impacting past due accounts receivables (AR).· Facilitates accurate and timelyresponses to requests for quotations (RFQs) related to new/custom engineeredproducts.· Represents Mechanical andElectrical Engineering at Contract Reviews and communicates closely with Salesand Marketing Team to ensure clear definition of engineered-to-order components. IV. Measures of Performance On Time Delivery (OTD) of production machines and other GMS products and after-market services by providing engineering support as required. On Time Delivery of ETO designs to facilitate on-time shipments to customers. First Pass Yield (FPY). Reduce the rework by establishing and consistently following engineering processes. Engineering Design Quality issues (ITLs) reported during production and from the field will be used to measure performance in this area. Gleason Product Development (GPD) metrics will be used to measure the effectiveness of new product development. Efficiency of the engineering department as measured by number and quality of new products/features/options released V.
