Position Summary

We seek a Program Coordinator to support our Portland school-based Girls Group programs. The Program Coordinator will primarily support the development and oversight of year-round Girls Inc. programming delivery, including development and coordination of girls’ workshops and enrichment opportunities, Girls Inc. events and supporting staff and volunteers across our school sites. Program Coordinator will work with schools and partners to recruit girls and youth into the program.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Coordination and Implementation

  • Lead implementation of programming, including communication with school partners, coordination of supply preparation, curriculum development and other group/site specific resources for facilitators
  • Support training and supervision of Volunteers and Lead Program Facilitators
  • Identify, create, and refine Girls Group curriculum and activities
  • Support implementation of Girls Group summer learning experiences and year round enrichment activities, including Girls ThINC Outside the Box 
  • Facilitate programming at sites when necessary 
  • Support with completing various administrative, research and special events projects as needed

Recruitment and Outreach  

  • Ensure strong recruitment and retention of youth enrolled in programming
  • Connect families to programming and other enrichment efforts
  • Maintain frequent programming communication with participants and families
  • Coordinate and plan workshops, program activities and outputs, other events as needed

Data Collection and Tracking

  • Collect and track relevant program data, e.g., enrollment forms, demographic information, and survey administration

Location

GIPNW serves girls and youth in the Portland metropolitan area, SW Washington, Tacoma, and Seattle. This role is based in Portland and may also involve travel to our different locations a few times a year, on planned occasions. 

Schedule

Girls Inc. PNW normal business hours are Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm. This role also requires work on evenings and weekends. These events are pre-communicated and pre-scheduled. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interested in developing an understanding of Girls Inc. curricula series and associated Positive Youth Development principles
  • Knowledgeable about best-practices in group facilitation and quality youth development programming
  • Commitment to strength-based individual and group work 
  • Understanding of the various barriers girls face related to navigating K-12 education, post-secondary readiness and career readiness and understands barriers experienced by girls in under-served communities
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations
  • Understands local trends related to the delivery of culturally responsive programming
  • Flexible, independent, warm, strong organizational skills, capacity to problem solve and team-minded
  • Has experience working with transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive youth
  • Understanding of and ability to apply a trauma informed lens 
  • Experience or willingness to engage in a hybrid workforce environment
  • Willingness to receive training and drive 15-passenger vehicle

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with groups of youth as a facilitator and a minimum of 2 years of coordination, implementation of youth programming and/or project management
  • One-year relevant experience supervising volunteers and/or employees
  • Relevant experience in gender-specific and/or experiential programming highly desirable
  • Ability to manage multiple activities seamlessly and to delegate effectively
  • Highly adept at cross team collaboration with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to proactively identify issues and generate creative solutions
  • Commitment to strength-based individual and group work
  • Knowledge of culturally competent practices
  • Post-secondary education/degree in a social science, youth development, education or related field preferred but not required
  • Willingness to have a flexible schedule, e.g. weeknight and weekend availability required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and a reliable vehicle
  • Familiar with Google Suite, Zoom, and technologically savvy 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

Benefits & Work Classification

The salary is $46,000 to $48,000 annually.
