Overview

Position Summary

Reporting to the Finance & Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for fixed assets, bank account reconciliations, other general ledger account reconciliations, and year-end reconciliations for audit purposes. The Staff Accountant is responsible for liaison between Accounting and Finance but has direct responsibility of the monthly balance sheet reconciliations. This position interacts with staff on every level at GSGLA, so it is important to have strong written and oral communication skills. Accounting is a high-pressure situation; we are looking for a teammate that will handle pressure well, manage deadlines, has a working knowledge of GAAP regulations, and has learning agility. Ideally the candidate will have experience with Abila MIP financial software.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Gain a comprehensive knowledge of the Council's operations to better support functional initiatives and provide recommendations to management.
  • Conduct daily monitoring and distribution of cash balance information including internal transfers of funds to Director of Finance, and other Senior Management
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts and research/resolve discrepancies
  • Perform complex bank reconciliations on a timely basis and resolve reconciling items.
  • Accounting for Fixed Assets to include monitoring work in progress on multiple projects, capitalization of Fixed Assets, and monthly calculation of depreciation.
  • Coordinate annual disposition of assets
  • Assist with month-end closing including bank entries, fixed-amount capitalization and write offs.
  • Assist in annual audit and preparation of IRS Form 990.
  • Assist in annual operating and capital budgets preparation.
  • Coordinate A/P and A/R as it pertains to cash entries. Monitor transactions to ensure proper coding​​​​​​​
  • Special projects as needed.

Skills / Experience / Other


Qualifications (Minimum Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance
  • 5 years Accounting and general ledger experience
  • Excel skills and intermediate knowledge of Office365
  • Abila MIP experience preferred
  • Accounting experience for corporation with $20MM revenue/expense and over $50MM in assets
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Detail-oriented with high level of accuracy
  • Strong positive customer service skills
  • Independent decision-making skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The environment for this position is mostly clean and comfortable but may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. while performing this work, the incumbent:
    • Will spend time sitting, utilizing the computer.
    • Will spend time standing/walking throughout the facilities.
    • Must travel via personal vehicle or public transport to various facilities throughout the region.
    • May lift to 15 lbs. periodically. If more, the incumbent must request assistance.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/herself or others.
