Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana is Hiring a Member Engagement Manager Near Chicago, IL

Position Summary:

We seek a visionary manager with a passion for innovation and customer service, who thrives on interactions with people and processes. The member engagement manager is responsible for providing leadership and effective oversight of the teams consisting of recruitment (outside sales) and member services specialists (inside sales). S/he is responsible for developing plans to ensure the effective execution of recruitment strategies and conversion of new members that increase the girl and adult membership of the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. This manager will build and foster strong relationships with their teams, other working teams within the organization, adult volunteers, and corporate and community partners. S/he works cross-functionally to support membership retention goals as well.

Competencies and Areas of Expertise:

  • Oral and written communication – Expresses ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner, listens with compassion, prepares organized presentations, has demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues, and provides excellent communication in person, on the phone and through email with diverse groups of people.
  • Project management – Demonstrates the ability to coordinate multiple projects while managing conflicting priorities and deadlines; formulates short- and long-term project goals, objectives, schedules, and priorities in line with council goals; anticipates issues, obstacles, or opportunities that may impact plans or actions; establishes customized courses of action for accomplishing goals.
  • Judgment, decision-making and problem-solving – Recognizes when immediate action is required to solve a challenge or obstacle and recognizes when sufficient information has been obtained to make a decision with our members’ best interests and our mission in mind.
  • Team-builder – Leads and inspires individual contributions from a team of specialists; collaborates proactively with other departments to create optimal solutions; creates an environment of transparency, information-sharing and accessibility; and recognizes and rewards team accomplishments.
  • Budget administration – Understands and applies budgeting principles to accurately prepare, integrate, and report on project and/or operational budgets.
  • Data-driven – Delivers results by analyzing data, using survey results to customize plans, reviewing trends, and sharing findings in understandable ways.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to teams of recruiters and member services staff in the recruitment of new girls and adults.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of community cultivation strategies and tactics that enhance visibility and financial support of the Girl Scout mission and program.
  • Manage teams in the development and implementation of comprehensive plans to ensure that Girl Scouting is available to all segments of our area’s jurisdiction.
  • Ensure year-round recruitment and conversion of girls and adult volunteers through a variety of community cultivation, marketing and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with other council departments, service unit support managers, and service team volunteers’ functions to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Supervise assigned staff to include hiring, coaching, ongoing development opportunities, and

performance management.

  • Oversee timely follow-up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity.
  • Utilize Salesforce to track and manage qualified leads through the recruitment and conversion processes.
  • Continually assess current practices and processes related to recruitment and conversion of new girl and adult members to ensure relevancy, efficiency and positive impact.
  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline the processes that welcome, train and support troop leaders throughout the membership year.
  • Manage, coach and encourage teams to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity.
  • Ensure the effective flow of communication about recruitment strategies from GSUSA and the council to team members and others.
  • Align people, improve processes and implement systems to support the work of the council related to product program, fund development, brand, program, camp, and more at troop level.
  • Ensure compliance with national/ local Girl Scout policies, as well as federal/state regulations.
  • Manage local implementation of department budget.
  • Model behavior consistent with the Girl Scout Mission.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience and demonstrated track record in membership strategy and services.
  • Project manager, strategic thinker, highly organized, and demonstrated hands-on experience with proven ability to multitask, handle pressure, solve problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Technical computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, customer relationship management systems, and social networking tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff, foster a commitment to a team approach, resolve conflict, and influence others to achieve results.
  • Interacts successfully with volunteers.
  • Understands and applies budgeting principles to accurately prepare, integrate, and report on project and/or operational budgets.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse people and volunteers.
