GILLIG is Hiring a Supply Chain Manager Near Livermore, CA

JOB SUMMARY

GILLIG is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Supply Chain Manager to effectively lead the majority of all material procurement and inbound freight for America’s leading transit bus manufacturer. Together with an extremely devoted team, this role will identify and champion Gillig’s key supply chain initiatives and proactively resolve supply chain related issues. Through their demonstrated knowledge, the Supply Chain Manager will serve as an expert resource to their direct reports, senior management, and cross functional peers in areas such as Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales, Customer Care and Finance all located on site in Livermore, CA.

The Supply Chain Manager reports to GILLIG’s Director of Supply Chain, is a key member of GILLIG’s overall management team and has direct responsibility for 11 procurement specialists. As an assembly operation, GILLIG depends heavily on the efforts of the Supply Chain team, its Supplier partnerships and its ability to ensure we remain the lowest cost provider in the industry. Through delegation, coaching, cross functional teamwork and supplier negotiation, the Supply Chain Manager ensures all materials, services and supplies are available to Manufacturing on time and at the best cost. At times, this position is a working manager and candidates are expected to be very hands on and have the ability to perform many of the functions that their employees do when required. He or she must have previous experience leading larger teams, be passionate about the position, the team and the products we produce as well as be highly motivated, analytical with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task. 

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field with previous work experience and technical knowledge in a Supply Chain position is preferred. Successful candidates can potentially come from a variety of different backgrounds including but not limited to Supply Chain, Engineering and Finance, provided they have prior experience in the Supply Chain field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage purchasing team and delegate assignments for existing and new projects
  • Identify, evaluate, select and integrate new suppliers and technologies
  • Perform analysis as required to improve operational efficiency of the Supply Chain processes
  • Effectively manage supplier relationships and be the main point of contact for escalation of supplier issues
  • Routinely interface with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Sales, Customer Care and Finance on key supply chain issues and initiatives
  • Develop commodity roadmaps that align business requirements with industry and supplier capabilities
  • Establish and maintain Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and ensure the continuous improvement of supplier quality, service, and total cost in support of business needs
  • Routinely negotiate pricing, supplier agreements/contracts and other legal documents
  • Develop and foster a customer service oriented, collaborative, and responsive environment within the Supply Chain group
  • Oversee inbound freight and logistics
  • Performs other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS and equivalent work experience
  • Proven leadership ability with at least 3-5 years of progressive management experience
  • 5 years’ experience in or with Supply Chain
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain processes
  • Ability to process, analyze and make decisions based off large amounts of data
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems
  • Ability to travel 1-5%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of lean principles and prior experience working in a formalized continuous improvement environmentABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Must have ability to occasionally lift up to 25lbs and work in a standing, sitting, or walking position for prolonged periods of time
