ROLE SUMMARY
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the maintenance staff, delegating work orders with a high sense of urgency, and communicating with the maintenance planner / scheduler on the status of work orders. This role will also evaluate equipment breakdowns, non-breakdowns, and PMs to identify root cause and will keep operations informed on the progress of breakdowns to reduce unnecessary downtime time contributing to operational variances.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Report food safety and quality problems to personnel with the authority to initiate action
Ensures that GMPs are enforced at all times
Communicate quickly and precisely both written or verbally, ideally by end of shift
Ensure department and company policies and procedures are enforced at all times
Interview and hiring maintenance staff when needed
Execute disciplinary action (progressive discipline policy) when associates fall short of expectations
Review maintenance work orders from the planner / scheduler and delegates the work to the maintenance staff and follows up to ensure work orders are completed timely and accurately.
Provide necessary support and technical expertise to maintenance staff as needed
Ensure maintenance staff is documenting information on the work orders / time allocation sheets accurately (time in and time out, parts used etc.)
Assist in the development of writing PM SOPs for each piece of equipment
Conduct PM audits to ensure proper execution and effectiveness of PMs.
Evaluate performance and quality of the work performed by Maintenance staff
Assist planner / scheduler with planned scheduled work, which includes time / cost estimates for projects assigned to the Maintenance Department (equipment rebuilds, major repairs etc.)
Assist maintenance staff in troubleshooting of the equipment while also training mechanics on how to perform tasks at hand
Monitor and follow up with maintenance staff while work is being performed to ensure work is being performed accurately and timely
Ensure estimated time of completion is being adhered to and communicate status of break-downs
Evaluate current skill levels of each mechanic (via an individual skill assessment) and suggest education opportunities to enhance maintenance skills to maintenance manager
Perform annual and semi-annual performance reviews of maintenance staff
Ensure maintenance shop and individual work area is cleaned and organized at all times (staff tool boxes, shop tools, benches, pipe rack, sheet metal rack, and welding area etc. Lead by example.
Perform weekly payroll every Monday unless HR suggests otherwise (holidays day may change).
Monitor attendance points on daily basis and address attendance (attendance points policy) issues as they occur with the associate.
Update the production breakdown update report at the end of each shift. Each field must be filled out and the status field must be updated on a daily basis (status open / closed). If you have to leave before your shift ends for whatever reason it is your responsibility to assign the task to someone else, this also includes weekends.
Update next shift on the status of work (required to come in 15 min before scheduled shift)
Organize department files and ensure sensitive documents are in a locked cabinet/office and work orders are kept in bins
Ensure weekly and weekend staffing coverage to support company needs, including assignments to be completed (even is not required to work weekends)
Ensure time allocations sheets are completed accurately and reviewed each day
Conduct weekly safety huddles and monthly pulse meetings
Enforce all company and department safety policies (LOTO, safety harness etc.)
Communicate estimated time of completion to production, planning, scheduling when breakdowns occur
Train new hires / maintenance staff on preventative maintenance activities (Check list, documentation, time frame expectations) as well as on department introductions, facility, equipment, department policies and procedures, equipment manuals.
Enforce purchasing / inventory policies and procedures
Perform other related duties, as assigned by manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree preferred, certificate or diploma from trade school in related field
5 years' experience in the maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility
3 years' experience in food production environment, preferably in the candy / confection industry
3 years of leadership experience
Ability to set priorities and juggle multiple projects despite interruptions and changing priorities
May be required to work weekends and during plant shutdowns
Working knowledge of the following:
Programmable Logic Controls
Working knowledge of basic and high voltage electrical systems
Experience with reading electrical blue prints

Compressed air system and components
