Role Overview

Our mission as a global animal livestock genetics leader is to be an innovative and preferred partner in emerging agriculture livestock technology focusing on animal health and welfare that provides benefits to farmers, consumers, and the environment. Our research focuses on using cutting edge molecular biology approaches to understand the molecular factors determining oocyte and embryo quality and development of reproductive diagnostic assays.

We seek a highly motivated candidate for a Reproductive Biology Research Technician position to perform molecular biology techniques for gene expression, genotyping and Epigenotyping, and diagnostic assay development in the areas of oocyte and embryo biology, stem cells, and pregnancy in livestock species. Candidates with embryo culture experience are preferred. The position allows candidates to build their laboratory skills in molecular reproductive diagnostics in farm animals. The candidate will work alongside a talented team of Research Scientists under the supervision of the Director of Reproductive Biology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Gamete and Embryo Physiology Team Lead to establish research objectives that contribute to the improvement of ART and reproductive health in support of the Genus bovine and porcine businesses.
  • Execute the experiments necessary to meet established project goals and timelines.
  • Complete the work under assigned budget and timeline for each project.
  • Gathering and placing lab orders, assisting in management of lab including cleaning, stocks and inventory, instrument maintenance.
  • Follow laboratory protocols.
  • Record and summarize experimental data, interpret findings, present project plans and results in lab meetings.
  • Provide feedback and potential solutions to other researchers within and across projects by identifying problems and opportunities impacting overall goals.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or in Animal Science, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Veterinary Science, or relevant field.
  • Understanding and experience in molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid and protein isolation, gene expression analysis by RT-qPCR, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry is preferred.
  • Experience/training in oocyte maturation, IVF, and embryo culture is preferred.
  • Previous experience in collection of scientific data, statistical analysis, and generation of scientific reports including presentation is preferred.
