Role Overview

The Benefit Manager is responsible for managing, facilitating, and executing the Genus health & welfare plans for the US and Canada. This position reports to the HR Shared Services Manager and offers a great opportunity for someone to expand or build upon their Benefit knowledge within the North America and Latin America region. This role develops/designs, negotiates, implements, and administers all company benefit plans including leave administration. This individual works with internal and external auditors, consultants, third party administrators, brokers, carriers, and providers. They ensure compliance with all legal obligations of various employee benefit programs and manages regulatory filings and disclosure requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage benefit processes to effectively streamline employee involvement to provide a comprehensive and positive benefit experience.
  • Perform analysis for international countries health and welfare benefits plans, make proposals, provide benchmarking studies when possible and design and lead the implementation plan.
  • Administers employee benefits programs, retirement plans, health plans, life, accident, disability benefits, leave management and some involvement in employee stock purchase plans.
  • Develops criteria for determination of insurance carriers and assists in the selection.
  • Manages vendor/broker contact and annual contract renewals for all plans.
  • Manages communication of annual benefit program enrollments or benefit changes through various communication modes.
  • Provides counseling assistance to employees and management in field locations with regard to benefit issues/questions.
  • Manages administration and maintenance of records to assist in processing employee disability, and COBRA.
  • Prepares and maintains benefit description booklets and certificates, annual 5500 benefit statements, IRS and other reports for employees, administration, and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs periodic internal and external audit of all plans.
  • Recommends procedures for maintenance of benefit programs and issues operating instructions.
  • Conducts surveys, analyzes, and maintains an organized body of information on benefit programs of other organizations.
  • Informs management of trends and developments on the benefits field. Provides advice and counsel regarding current developments in benefit programs.
  • Conducts special studies as requested by management.
  • Provide a full range of systems administration support and end-user training.
  • Participates in the establishment and management of short- and long-range objectives for company programs.
  • Encourages teamwork through cooperative and positive interactions with co-workers.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication, time management, writing, decision making, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Must understand self-insurance plans, stop loss coverage, etc.
  • Must be flexible, proactive, and able to think creatively.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of individuals in cross-functional departments.
  • Proven expertise in benefits administration, project management, plan and process documentation and improvements.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions professionally from groups of managers, employees, and HR community.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Knowledge with ADP payroll system is a plus.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
