The System Administrator (SA) position at Genesis Energy is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of network, systems hardware and software, and related infrastructure as part of a team of System Administrators. This position drives and manages technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. It also ensures that hardware, operating systems, software, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards and develops new and/or improves existing standards to increase efficiency and security. Additional job responsibilities are listed below:SA Engineering and ProvisioningDevelop, document, implement, standardize, maintain, upgrade, and decommission systems, virtualization, peripherals, services, settings, storage, networking, telephony, etc. in accordance with the needs of the business Provide support for infrastructure and applications critical to operational requirements. Develop and maintain operational standards and procedures for implementing and maintaining systems. Contribute to and maintain system documentation and standards. Research and recommend innovations and automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage existing resources and provide economies of scale. Operations and SupportCollaborate with business units to deploy, upgrade, migrate, and maintain systems based on best practices and operational efficiencies. Perform daily system monitoring and remediation, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server and network resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Developing monitoring baselines and procedures to improve efficiencies of the environment Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions or potential security exposures. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all data and systems are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. Maintain and improve compliance with standards for security and audit and develop procedures for improving compliance Provide Tier III / other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies. Maintain lifecycle of systems and applications from implementation to decommission. Participate in support and on call rotation. MaintenanceApply patches and upgrades for OS, firmware, tools, utilities, and drivers on a regular basis. Configure / add new services as necessary. Upgrade and configure system software that support applications per project or operational needs. Document and maintain operational, configuration, and other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.Required Skills, Experience, and Education:Bachelor’s degree with a technical major such as engineering or computer science or equivalent experience. 7 years of system administration experience including enterprise scale management. Hands on experience managing networking, Active Directory, Cloud applications, Linux/Unix, VMware, System Center suite, and Windows Server. Self-starter with critical thinking skills. Ability to problem solve and communicate findings to colleagues and management. Industry standard Microsoft and Unix/Linux certifications, a plus. Relevant industry experience, a plus.
