Job Description Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week. About the Digital Business Fleet Services team at General Motors: The team is responsible for ideating, incubating, and delivering new technology for General Motors related to Fleet and Commercial Services. About the Software Engineer: The Fleet Services Engineering Manager is responsible for building, leading, and developing a software engineering team for the sole purpose of delivering innovative software solutions that delight the customer. This person is also responsible for building a culture that encourages collaboration and innovation across many subject areas and external teams. Engineering manager will be leading a team of Software Engineers, Architects, Test Engineers, Product owners and Scrum Leads. We regularly work on innovative technologies – understanding and inventing new designs and integration patterns along the way. Our Engineering Managers Must: Build highly collaborative scrum teams Coach, Develop and Mentor Developers, Product Owners, Scrum Managers and Architects Leverage experience delivering software to cultivate and guide the team to deliver solutions Proactively finds opportunities to establish and maintain a high level of engagement within the team Lead the team in alignment with GM's Mission, Vision, Values and Purpose Have a strong Technical background in software Engineering or Software Architecture Build strong relationships with key Business and Product Management team members Lead and run Vendor relationships, ensuring all contracts follow GM Standard practices Apply modern delivery methodologies (ie. Agile) to software delivery projects Set measurable goals for team members Provide feedback (constructive and Positive) to team members to help improve productivity Provide strategic vision to enable industry-leading innovation. Champion inclusion by creating moments that value backgrounds, opinions, ideas of all team members Additional Job Description Minimum Qualifications: 10 years Software Development and Implementation Experience 5-7 years hands-on system development as a data analyst, architect, or software engineer 3 years Delivering customer facing applications Self-starter and quick learner who understands and can adapt to existing software application and computing infrastructures Experience building trust and collaborating with business, end users, and UX Design teams Experience in driving development activities with user through the use of Wireframes, user flow diagrams, story boards, and feedback looping Experience driving iterative development with several partners Strong background in software and application development lifecycle, including budget, planning, requirements management, continuous integration and deployment techniques, and test procedures Ability to quickly learn and adapt to working with marketing, customer experience and digital retail innovation business processes and functional areas Facilitated team engagement across diverse functional areas Proven experience in putting into practice highly purposeful software development methodologies (i.e. Lean Software Engineering, Agile, Scrum, etc). Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM subject are 3 years developing 12 factor applications 3 years evaluating performance of technical resources Ability to design, architect and implement scalable high availability solutions Experience attracting, retaining and developing software engineers, scrum leads, test engineers, architects and Product owners Strong in creating technology roadmaps, working with business team and customers and multi-functional teams Over 3 years applying platform and infrastructure as a service technologies and capabilities and their corresponding services (object store, configuration management, service registries, etc) Experience migrating software solutions to Azure About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
