Overview

Establish, monitor and improve tooling, equipment, facilities and processes related to the manufacture of complex Defense products. Responsible for writing manufacturing instructions, creating manufacturing routers, and developing manufacturing bill of materials. Review technical data package and contract modifications to determine impact to the manufacturing process. Solve manufacturing problems and troubleshoot product failure and Quality issues in Root Cause and Corrective Action teams, as necessary. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

This job requires an individual to establish, monitor and improve processes related to the manufacture of complex Defense and Aerospace devices. Perform most duties with minimal supervision. Good communication skills are needed to prepare and present technical manufacturing information to management and customers. Develop and maintain manufacturing processes that produce products in the safest manner, at quality levels exceeding customer expectations, at the lowest practical cost, on or ahead of schedule. This is a hands on position with the expectation that the engineer will be on the line multiple times a day and support as required for the Production, Program and/or Engineering Manager.

Major Position Responsibilities

• Develops manufacturing processes by studying the product Technical Data Package requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment, writing Standard Operating Procedures, and conferring with equipment vendors.
• Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators and others.
• Constantly evaluating improvements in manufacturing quality and efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, ergonomics, process controls, tooling design, and equipment layout.
• Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; and confirming manufacturing processes.
• Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
• Participates in Process Safety Management (PSM) program elements such as process safety information, process hazard analysis, mechanical integrity, and management of change to name a few of the elements.
• Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
• Is willing to do what is necessary to ensure personnel safety, product quality, and contract performance.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing/ Mechanical Engineering or related plus a minimum of 5 years engineering experience in Mix Cast operations or related.
