You will evangelize for and be obsessed with user experience as it relates to the services you support. You will help manage and orchestrate each of these by leaning heavily on technologies likeTerraform,Docker,BashPythonandGo. On any given day, you should expect to spend at least 75% of your time actively engineering solutions; the rest will be a mixture of reviewing code from your colleagues, defining SLIs and SLOs, participating in design meetings, documentation, and self-development.

This position will eventually require you to carry a company-paid mobile device and participate in 24/7 on-call rotations alongside your engineering colleagues. Don't worry though, our on-call experience doesn't suck.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Engineer new solutions for observability integration, using both high-level and scripting languages as your primary tool
  • Design and deploy new service architectures to the cloud via infrastructure as code pipelines
  • Participate in discussions that define appropriate SLIs and SLOs of services
  • Participate in the design and engineering of best practices for ensuring the observability and reliability
  • Participate in after-hours on-call support rotations

Distinctives (what sets you apart):

  • Passionate about learning new things
  • Activelistener with an ability to articulate your ideas and questions with clarity

Must Have (the non-negotiable parts):

  • Able to demonstrate a firm understanding of and experience with containers and infrastructure as code, preferably Docker and Terraform.
  • Comfortable in and excited about writing software using both high-level and scripting languages, preferably Go and Python.
  • An understanding of observability stacks (monitoring, alerting, structured logging, APM, etc.)
  • An understanding of CI/CD pipelines, preferably in git/GitLab
  • An understanding of RESTful and Websocket based APIs
  • An understanding that clouds are not just for rain

Should Have (some wiggle room):

  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably in git/GitLab
  • Hands-on experience implementing RESTful and/or Websocket based APIs
  • Hands-on experience in a wide variety of AWS technologies, preferably in both the console and the awscli.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent training and professional experience

Now you're just showing off:

  • Any verifiable cloud or security credential (AWS Architect/DevOps/etc., isc2, AWS security specialist, ethical hacking, security , etc.)
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry / OpenSLO
  • Familiarity with Datadog / Honeycomb
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products (OpsGenie, JIRA, Confluence)
  • Experience working with developers in an agile environment
  • Experience in the games industry
  • Knowledge about Gearbox-owned IPs
