Unit Clerk 

Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center

Thursdays -7pm to 7am (Night shift)

Saturdays- 7am to 7pm (Day Shift)

Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center located in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty five (55) bed inpatient hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.

The Unit Clerk performs clerical functions on the patient care unit. The Unit Clerk is responsible for transcribing and processing orders, accurately maintaining related documents/chart, coordinating patient admission and discharge clerical duties involving nursing care and other related services on the inpatient psychiatric unit.

Minimum Experience Required

  • Six (6) months unit clerk/secretary experience in an acute inpatient unit. 

  •  Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office.

Minimum Education Required

  • High School Diploma

Essential Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to interact with Adolescent and Adult patients
  • Working knowledge of medical/psychiatric terminology
  • Working knowledge of state/county regulations related to legal holds, writs, court procedures, conservator-ship and legal documents involving psychiatric patients.
  • Ability to type 35 WPM
  • Clear Telephone Voice

Physical Strength

  • Light work: able to lift a maximum of 20 pounds and occasional exertion.
