The Argus Leader/argusleader.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK and South Dakota’s largest news organization, seeks an inspirational, results-driven top editor to guide a newsroom of 14 journalists in producing impactful journalism and driving digital subscription growth. The editor will help shape and execute the Argus Leader’s strategic vision for digital audience growth. The ideal candidate will have a track record of guiding innovative investigative and enterprise work. This editor will love to recruit and coach other editors and reporters, setting high standards, elevating the quality of the Argus Leader’s journalism and increasing audience engagement. Excellent news judgment and editing skills are a must. A successful candidate will embrace the latest developments in digital technology, video and social media and will experiment with innovative approaches to build audience. The editor will be well-versed in using metrics to shape beats, platform choices and search and social media strategies. As a key ambassador to the community, the editor will work to increase the visibility and impact of the Argus Leader in the Sioux Falls metro area and across South Dakota. In addition, the editor will work with advertising and distribution executives on new products, community initiatives and content sponsorships. He or she must effectively collaborate with content planners, digital producers and the print Design Center. Solid news judgment.Experience editing and shaping watchdog and investigative journalism.Top-notch planning, organizational and time management skills.Understanding of metrics, social-media and SEO.Command of media law and principles of ethical conduct. Self-motivation and self-direction. Ability to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
