Taleo BE is Hiring a Gallery Attendant, Thrivent Art Collection Near Minneapolis, MN

The Gallery Attendant for the Thrivent Art Collection is responsible for observing and protecting art gallery objects while patrolling the space during public open hours. The incumbent will be responsible for helping prevent theft, vandalism, or other hazards. The Gallery Attendant is a steward of the visitor experience and is expected to welcome and greet internal and external visitors, while serving as an enthusiastic, welcoming and approachable presence to help create a positive experience.
In addition, the Gallery Attendant will be responsible for answering questions and engaging in conversation with visitors. The role will also support the Art Collection team with light administrative and collection management duties, while actively learning to continually expand knowledge about the collection, toward visitor engagement. The role may participate in supporting special events at the gallery.

This part-time role will include up to 20 hours per week; may occasionally include evening and weekend hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acknowledge and/or greet visitors and staff in a friendly and welcoming manner that creates an inclusive and welcoming environment
  • Proactively protect the art by closely monitoring the museum’s galleries and public spaces to ensure the security & safety of our staff, visitors and collection by communicating safety concerns to supervisors by reporting art incidents to the guards and Art Collection team.
  • Document incidents appropriately
  • Familiar with all Art Collection emergency procedures and establishes clear understanding of individual security needs of each exhibition.
  • Provide guidance and support to visitors by courteously and accurately answering questions and explaining museum guidelines to visitors in a positive and understanding manner
  • Assist guest with disabilities on directions and support
  • Provide visitors with key talking points on each exhibition and have knowledge on a minimum of two (2) works in each gallery
  • Stay current on Thrivent programming and events by reading exhibition summary sheets, and other informational materials (i.e. exhibition didactics)
  • Capable and comfortable working through obstacles or complaints in a productive and meaningful way. Deescalates challenging guest service situations.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of conflict resolution, empathizing and effective listening skills.
  • Completes administrative and collection management tasks when requested by Art Collection team. This may include database work, cataloguing, light cleaning, etc.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience and comfort with public speaking and presentation delivery.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated initiative and integrity.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills to interact with visitors and supervisors consistently with supervisors.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Art history, Art, and Design background required (may include an accredited degree or relevant coursework
  • Current student with undergraduate coursework in Art, Art History, Design, or relevant equivalent experience.

  • Relevant coursework or interest in any of the following:
    • Prints and Drawings
    • Religious Art, Theology
    • Early Modern Period
    • Contemporary art
