Job Description: Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic SUMMARY Install, maintain and repair equipment which requires general mechanical system knowledge and fabrication abilities. Use of hand, power, and measuring tools needed to repair and troubleshoot equipment. Perform welding, burning, rigging and general maintenance repair practices to maintain plant fixed and mobile equipment. Plant equipment includes a Jaw crusher, cone crushers, roll crushers, impact crushers, bucket elevators, conveyor belts, rotary dryers and kilns, wire and rubber screens, rotary screw air compressors, dust collectors, slurry pumps, polyethylene pipe and other rock processing equipment. Ensure safe operation and repair activities during shift and coordinate operation downtime and maintenance needs with the Maintenance Supervisor and Superintendent. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES. 1. Inspect Equipment (Tools, Cranes and Mobile equipment) and Work Area for Hazards and document inspection. Keep the work area and equipment clean and orderly. 2. Perform a variety of craft duties involved in constructing, maintaining and repairing plant buildings, fixed crushing, sizing and conveying equipment, mobile power equipment and a wide variety of other plant equipment 3. Work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions. Perform duties such as build forms for concrete, pour and finish concrete. At times, mix small amounts of concrete. 4. Cut metal to size, lay out and drill holes, assemble parts by bolting or welding to build and/or erect a wide variety of items, such as conveyors, fans, feeders, bins, kilns, coolers, mixers, buildings, etc. Install, repair and replace fire bricks in kilns and heaters. 5. Assemble and adjust motors, gear units, drives and associated equipment used to drive conveyors, fans, elevators, etc. Build and install elevators, conveyors, bins, guards, walkways, etc. Make repairs to guards, elevators, conveyors, etc., 6. Install and repair belts, chains and buckets on conveying and elevating systems. 7. Cut, thread, and install pipe for items such as water, air, oil etc. 8. Install and repair metering devices and automatic batching units. 9. Maintain and repair air compressors, crushers, mills and other plant equipment and machinery as necessary. 10. Use all types of mechanic’s hand tools and power tools, such as drills, saws, jack hammer, etc. band saw and chop saws. Must be proficient at acetylene welding/cutting and arc welding. 11. Fabricate, install and maintain chutes and hoppers. 12. Select and transport tools and materials to job site by truck, cart or by manual handling. 13. Perform various tasks of preventive maintenance. 14. Operate equipment and machinery in connection with repairs to mechanical parts of equipment. 15. Remove, dismantle, repair, overhaul, assemble, test and install engines and engine accessories, transmissions, differentials, clutches, torque converters, steering systems, brake systems, hoist cylinders, hose assemblies, etc in maintaining mobile power equipment such as trucks, tractors, shovels, etc. 16. Diagnose trouble on all types of plant equipment and take corrective action. 17. Change and repair tires. 18. Prepare spare crusher parts for rebuild that may include melting out roll bearing babbitt, pouring hot molten babbitt, rebuilding Vertical shaft impact crushers, using cutting torch and rose bud torches, remounting cone and roll crushers, 19. Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, trucks and cranes as needed. 20. Keep work area and equipment neat and clean. 21. Report needed maintenance and repairs to supervision. 22. Record repair information on work order document and communicate to supervisor. 23. Perform other duties as required and assigned as outlined in Article V, and other Sections, of the SGI and United Steelworkers Local 7033 Labor Contract ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Knowledge of proper disposition of unsuitable materials. Knowledge of Quality Control Standards. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Proficient in Heavy Industrial Maintenance. Must have the ability to Weld and demonstrate knowledge of mechanical aptitude. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery. This is normally acquired through one to two years of experience. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and walk extensively throughout the plant. Ability to wear respiratory protection. Ability to operate crushing and conveying equipment and other mobile equipment (Pickups, Forklifts, Loaders) Ability to work in Outdoor Environments (heat and cold) WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Walking 2. Climbing (Ladders and Stairways) 3. Driving and operation of mobile equipment 4. Lifting (up to 50 # - frequently (floor to waist)) 5. Working from heights 6. Wear a Respirator and other required PPE (Fall Protection) 7. Work in Outside Environment 8. Working in awkward positions for extended periods of time. Such as bent at waist, Squatting, sitting on knees or laying down. Work may require arms to be elevated above Shoulders for extended periods. 9. Operation of a variety of hand tools powered by pneumatic, electric or hydraulic pressure As well as Cutting torches and welders. Working conditions are normal for a Mine / Mill manufacturing environment. Environment consists of a variety of Rock Crushing, Screening and conveying equipment. Work involves lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, respirators, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
