The RN is a staff nurse who assesses patient’s needs, formulates a plan of care and provides care based on identified needs and physician orders according to standards, policy and procedure. The RN develops and implements patient education plans. The RN communicates and interacts with other team members to facilitate delivery of care. The RN is responsible to the patient for whom care is provided, self and peers as professional nurses, the charge nurse, clinical supervisor and department director. The RN supervises LPN’s and unlicensed personnel and may serve as a preceptor to orientees and nursing graduates. The RN works effectively toward collaborative relationships with medical staff and other members of the healthcare team and administrative personnel. The RN maintains a cooperative working relationship with ancillary departments and the entire healthcare team. The RN must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Responsibilities includes general RN Job Description as listed above in addition to Charge Nurse responsibilities as follows. The Charge Nurse functions with the primary concern for patient care. Continuously provides expertise to the staff by assessing the quality and quantity of care and evaluating and intervening in the management of care problems as necessary. The Charge Nurse oversees the unit’s operations in the absence of directors or administration; and, collaborates with them on an as needed basis.
Education REQUIRED: Graduate of a school of nursing as an RN
Experience PREFERRED: 3-5 years experience as an RN
Licenses/Certificates REQUIRED: Licensed by the Alabama State Board of Nursing. BLS, ACLS, PALS required.
