About the role:

G/O Media is looking for a dynamic Benefits Director who will provide leadership for program development, implementation, communications, compliance, and administration of benefits. We are hands on, agile and flexible in supporting our employee’s G/O Media. This role is a great opportunity to get involved in many aspects of HR in a startup style environment and use your voice to help us shape the best experience for our employees. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strategic partner with leadership to ensure that all benefits programs align with company goal of wellbeing for employee population
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements for benefits delivery in all locations where G/O Media has benefits eligible employees
  • Evaluate and (as appropriate) evolve broker/vendor landscape to ensure it fits company’s current and future needs
  • Manage renewals and budget in concert with Finance, HR, and company leadership to ensure market competitiveness and compliance
  • Analyze current and developing legislation, benefits and leave-related regulations and other environmental factors impacting plan performance
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement and ensure great employee experience – effective and efficient workflows and vendor support
  • Ensures employees have a clear understanding of offerings, policies, and key dates
  • Provide education to managers and HR Team members on compliance related matters

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of Benefits experience; 5 years of people management experience
  • Knowledge of benefits programs and successful track record of success in plan design, and cost effectiveness
  • Familiarity with benefits regulatory, compliance, legislative and market issues
  • Possess strong business acumen, emotional intelligence, collaboration, critical analysis and leadership skills
  • Strong external network to gather and exchange concepts
  • Excellent communicator who builds rapport and credibility with others easily; anticipate employee needs/questions and solutions to support them
  • Team player who thrives in a fast paced and frequently changing environment
  • Solid understanding of NY, CA & IL labor laws
  • Experience with unions is a plus
  • SPHR/PHR or CEBS is a plus

This position is based at G/O Media’s HQ in New York City.

This position reports into the Chief People Officer.
