Summary

The Billing Specialist will perform accounts receivable activities for orthopedic physician office.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and reviews claims to ensure that payer-specific billing requirements are met.
• Resolves routine patient billing inquiries and problems.
• Investigates denials and appeals when needed.
• Follows up on billing, applying appropriate adjustments as needed.
• Verifies accuracy of billing data, correcting any errors.
• Creates itemized statements, bills, invoices, and other necessary billing documents, which may require calculation of credit terms, shipping charges, discounts, and costs of goods.
• Processes medical records requests and additional information requests by insurance companies in a timely fashion. Contacts patients to obtain, verify, and update account information when necessary.
• Performs other related accounts receivable duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

• Understanding of clerical and administrative procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, physician office operations.
• Understanding of commercial and governmental billing requirements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree or vocational school training preferred.
• Experience within an Orthopedic practice/firm.
